Header Install

OK, continuing on with the major over hall on the 1991 RS...rear end done, suspension, done, LS1 swapped, wiring done, 4L60E secured...adding in headers. Purchased the Speed Engineering #25-1035 pictured below. They have 1-7/8" Primaries & 3" Collectors. The engine is set in place but not "tightened"...in other words, the mounting bolts on the motor mounts and trans cross member are loose. I really don't want to have to raise the engine again, but was wondering if anyone has had experience installing the passenger side header. I am close, went form the bottom up...but am stuck against the motor mount bracket & bell housing "bulge" (near the starter) and A-arm. Anyone have any thoughts or tips? Thank you!

Re: Header Install

I have a sbc, and when I had the stock kmember, I had to install the engine.
But not bolt it in, then lift slightly, install headers.
Then undo passenger side header bolts slightly, install starter, then bolt everything down.
Unfortunately, no other options,
Unless..... you go aftermarket kmember

Re: Header Install

If you have a stock AC style heater box then you're stuck loosening things till you can lift/pry the engine over far enough to get them in. With a non-ac heater box you can usually drop them in from the top with a little futzing around.

Re: Header Install

I went in from the bottom up, so AC box was not an issue. Ended up having to loosen motor mount bracket bolts and move engine over towards driver side about 1/2"...just enough to have the headers clear the A-Arm and trans bell housing (near starter)...just made it in!
