True Dual orrr

Hey everyone! I have a 383 w/ a ZZ9 cam, afr195 heads, mini ram intake, doug's shorty headers and 30lb injectors. I'm looking to get a full exhaust done but I'm caught in a bind. I was under the impression a true dual would maximize performance but when I called a few shops they told me that since there is limited space that they could run true dual only as a 2"- 2.5" but they offered up a different route where instead of true dual I went with a 3" exhaust all the way back. Now I'm not sure how bug a difference .5" would make so I figured the best place to ask would be here. Thank you in advance!

Re: True Dual orrr

Dual 2.5" flows more air than a single 3", so if those are the only two options I'd pick the dual 2.5 for a built engine like that. However, duals will never be as efficient as a single pipe because there's more surface area of metal to cause drag. It seems like your engine is fairly stout, you might look into a y pipe with a nice merge into a 4" single setup with a low restriction muffler.

How much HP are you planning on making, and at what rpm?

I'm in the process of hooking up the engine still, I just received it back from the shop, from other similar builds I think I'm looking at between 350-400whp but I'm not sure because it hasn't been dynoed

Re: True Dual orrr

Go single 3.5" or 4"
Duals never have good ground clearance.

I went with oval pipes and single 4"

Forgot to mention that my car is also lowered, so it doesn't have a lot of clearance as it is

Re: True Dual orrr

If you have shorties you can easily run dual 3” down the stock exhaust route.

long tubes becomes the problem because of the trans subframe but its still possible to have dual 3”. I have dual 3” on my bbc car going down the tunnel to the turbos with plenty of clearance. I have run 3” down the stock location as well.

a big single 3.5-4” is also a nice setup and sounds really good

Are you at stock ride height? Do you think a lowered car would cause any problems with clearance?

I am slightly lower than stock height but im on a 27.5-28” rear tire which helps some but the lowest point on the car is the area by the trans subframe

Is that the lowest part of the exhaust or just the lowest part in general
