Has your exhaust shop raised its prices for welds?
Has your exhaust shop raised its prices for welds?
Five years ago I had a 6 inch sleeve welded into my daily driver's exhaust for $60. Went back to the same shop yesterday and the price is now $95 for the same thing. I'm in eastern Pa. I called around to other shops, and they all want $140 or $150 just to weld in a 6 inch sleeve.
Is it the same all over? Seems pretty high.
Thanks

$60 five years ago, is $72 today.....but that's just the cost of material and goods.....not labor.

I'm curious, what are you doing that is requiring a 6" sleave to be welded in on a regular basis?

Ive brought several swapped cars to Mufflex over the last few years for Y-pipes. The average price was between 4-550 for a welded in pipe in aluminum or stainless. Most recently the y cost us 1200. A bit of a sting to the budget. We did also find a shop out in PA called Gehmans that did the same y pipe for $330 in stainless.

I had to replace one of my Dynomax mufflers and it was $140 labor. The muffler itself was only $85. I thought it was excessive but the guy does good work so I figured whatever....

83 Crossfire,
This is my daily driver Nissan Versa, not my GTA. There was a defective weld from the factory in these 2009 Versas that rusts out. The standard fix is to cut out the flange between the muffler and the resonator (the defective weld is somewhere in the flange) and replace it with a sleeve.
The sleeve fix lasted 5 years. Then started leaking at one end. I asked for just a reweld at the leaking end, but they said a whole new sleeve would be better.
