Hooker 2460 shortys 3" y options?

1988 trans am gta only engine mods are
hooker header 2460s
2.5 exhaust to flowmaster 40
no cats
No emissions
tuned with burned prom from hawks
Ram air

I have hooker 2460s to the 16767HKR Y pipe running a single 2.5 exhaust. Is a single 2.5 too small and choking my gta? Do I need to replace it with a 3 inch all the way back? If so who makes a 3" Y for the 2460s?

I'd think the 2 1/2 freed up exhaust should handle that engine OK, depending on the Y-pipe design. The stock y on my 88 was pretty much crap.

Re: Hooker 2460 shortys 3" y options?

There is no 3" Y-pipe for the 2460 headers. Doug's Y-pipe fits the 2460s too, same design, same size (probably made better too). Dyno Don posted some pictures in a thread where he modified a Hooker/Doug's Y-pipe for a 3" exhaust. That's what would have to be done to make it larger.

Interesting thing about the 2460 headers (and Doug's identical headers and Y-pipe), each header has a 3" outlet. The reduction to 2.5" is in the design of the Y-pipe, where the downpipes connect to the headers. If someone were capable, motivated, and felt it was necessary or beneficial, then they could fabricate 3" downpipes into a 3", 3.5" or even larger Y-pipe collector, into an appropriately large exhaust system.

Most people would probably just opt for larger diameter headers or long tubes for such needs, but even most of those still have a 2.5" exit. Seems like the 2460s/Doug's shorties, with their 3" exits, could be capable of supporting more power than people might think.

I have the 2460 headers and Dougs D901 y-pipe. We cut the Dougs merger back to wher it was 2 3in pipes and placed the FlowmasterY in there to keep it going 3in all the way. Easy fix and im sure less restriction

If it's not really beneficial I'm not even going to fool with it. I don't plan on pushing hp past what it is right now but I just wanted to make sure I also wasn't choking it with the single 2.5
