SLP Y pipe question, can anyone help?

Alright, I don't think I have the money for full exhaust now, but I'm gonna price how much to install headers tomorrow. Worst case scenario, I can't afford the headers and install, I'm probably going to just get an SLP Y pipe. My question is, what size pipe does the SLP Y pipe come out to? Is it 3 inch? And they have 2, one is # 31030 for 83-91 V8 and the other is # 31031 for 82-92 V8. Is there some sort of difference? I'm probably going to get a new catback to go with the Y pipe, the flowmaster sounds pretty good, but it isn't quite what I hoped for. Thanks.

BTW, it's going on an '87 Z28 LB9 (305 TPI).

You're going to need the 31030 because SLP sent me the 31030 for my 91 RS Lo3 but the passenger side exhaust pipe on the Y-pipe was about an inch too short to reach my exhaust manifold. I told the guy I had an Lo3 engine but he insisted that 31030 was the right part number. I called them back and another guy said they should've shipped me part number 31031. After I got it I trial fitted it and found that the distance between the two pipes on the y-pipe were about 3/4" too wide. I took the y-pipe to a muffler shop and they cut the pipe near where the pipe crosses in front of the oil pan and made a slip joint so I could slip the two pipes together and have everything line up. I then tack welded the slip joint and then took everything off so I could weld everything together for a final assembly. The two 2 1/2" exhaust pipes come together into a 3" collector. I also fitted a Random Technology high flow cat to the Y-Pipe. My car sounds and performs like it has headers.

Are you saying that SLP makes a Y-pipe that will connect to the stock exhaust manifolds?

Yes they do, the part number is 31031 for a 91 RS Camaro with the Lo3 engine. Here's a shot of it taken under the car.

Check out my first post, it's got the part numebers, and go to www.slponline.com to find them. Their site seems to be down though...

It's not the same Y-Pipe. My engine is an Lo3 and yours is an LB9. The Difference is in the length of the passenger side exhaust pipe. I have the SLP catalog and it lists 31030 for LB9's and 31031 for LO3's.

GKK: Thanks man, I need one of them catalogs =) Found a place here that the guy *says* they sell the SLP 1 5/8 headers uncoated for 299$!! I forgot to ask if they have AIR or not, but that is WAY cheaper than anyplace i've seen.

I believe you will need the 31030 for the TPI motor, with the cat adapter. Had mine installed yesterday. Man, what a huge difference from that stock unit! It gave the AeroChamber muffler a much throatier sound and it is more responsive as well. Got about 1 1/2" clearance under the floor before it goes to the cat, and I had to bend my tranny lines up alittle, as to not rub on the pipe. Very nice clearance around oil pan. Glad I went with it.
