Flames!!

I am just trying to get more flame out of my exhaust when I up/down shift
every now and then I can get my exhaust to get two flames out but not all the time

I have my cats removed though there is still a pipe going into the exhaust like there would be with the cat

I know that the pipe will help make the air/fuel mixture go off but would it make the mix burn in whole before it hits my tail pipe leaving me with no flame. or if I remove it would I prevent the flames from going out my tailpipe b/c I am not having that extra air

I just want to spit flames if I rev up to 6k rpms and then let off the gas

I believe there's a way if you run a spark plug wire. Does rotary even have plug wires.

yeah they have spark plugs and wires

but I am not wanting to do it that way where I have to push a switch or anything

I want them only to come out when I upshift or downshift at high rpm and that is it

run it real real rich and it might do it, spark plug way is the best but you have to have model t coils which are hard to find.

Search for flame throwers. We had a long discussion about it a while back.

Try running it richer than it is now and see if it does what you want. Remove the cat if not done already, run straight pipes with no mufflers, everything to increase the velocity of the air leaving the motor. The smaller the pipe I think the more chance of seeing the flames would be, the bigger the less chance of seeing them even if they are there. That's about the only things I can think of right now but I'm tired and going to bed now, I'll come up with more ideas sometime.

right now I am running two 2" pipes off the block into a collector.
then it goes into a y and back into dual 2 inch pipes again

what I am planning on doing is just going to true dual 2 inch pipes

into a 2 1/2 inch core muffler ( all straight through )

car runs a little rich as it is. so that is taken care of.
and I dont have a cat, running a pre-silencer instead.

one of my mufflers is blown and I am sure that the y pipe's are not helping my flames any

my only problem with running rich though is I dont want to have a loss of power nor fuel econ.

though would leaving hte air pump in or taking it out help with flames or no difference

thanx for the input so far guys

just tired of getting little puffs of flames

I want some huge *** flames from my ***

I have yet to beat the guy around here in his RX-7 who is running a 4 inch pipe off his turbo at a flamage contest

How about running another coil and a spark plug, but using a signal wire from your normal coil so it's sparking constantly. You could even switch it. (constant flamage/no flamage)

This is just me thinking here....
I know what it is you're looking for. I remember the M3's spit flames a lot on the shifts at the Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta. I'm thinking the best way to make it visible is to reduce the length of your exhaust system. Of course, this can't always be done since the tips are usually at the rear of the car. Maybe a side setup would be shorter and work, but might not work on an rx7, or just might look funny, I don't know.

ok so I know I am being a pain in the ***
but hey flames are sweet man

I wouldn't mind having the switch thing to be honest but too much work to switch gears hit the switch and then spit the flames

though wouldn't mind getting something like that for if I want to sit at and idle and spit them out

the short exhaust idea might work but after I get my springs for the car I do not think I would have the room to do so since I should only have an inch of space under my car when I drop it all the way and I am trying to go with dual 2-2 1/2 inch pipes for my car (hehe I am running an 80 cid motor and run pipes just as big as you guys)

also most aftermarket muffs have the tip (damn 3-4 inch suckers though ) as part of the muffler

though I might be able to get a spart/coil as you said with something to set it off right at 7400-8500 rpms depending on if my mods i am doing ( no more turbo for me though for now ) will move my shift point up

You're not getting what I was saying. Even if it's sparking all the time, I don't think it would actually ignite the exhaust until you let off the gas, which is what you'd be doing on an upshift anyway.

Anyway, I was being the pain in the ***, not you.. lol
