Y-Pipe for Hooker Headers
Y-Pipe for Hooker Headers
I am finally ordering the exhaust for the Firebird! I work to damn much. Anyway Thanks to all of the people who helped me before I have come up with the Hooker headears, Jegs part number 520-2460, and the Hooker cat-back, Jegs part number 520-16822. I noticed that the headers do not come with a Y-pipe. Does anyone know where I could find one that would fit this combo. I am also going to need a cat... Any ideas would help. I'm off to find the credit card. Thanks guys. :hail:

No such animal exists. Hooker doesn't make a y-pipe for them, and you can be sure nobody else would want to make something like "Dynomax y-pipe for Hooker 2460 headers". If you get those headers, be prepared to spend about $300 for someone to make a custom y-pipe to connect the headers to the cat (might be less if you "know" somebody in the exhaust business).
The Hooker 2055 headers come with the y-pipe with a 3" slip-fit connection to the cat. Get a Catco TPI single-cat direct-fit cat, and it will bolt to the cat-back.

Thanks five7kid,
Do you have a part number for the catco convertor? I searched jegs and summit for it but I can't come up with it. Also, not to be a moron, if I have to ge the hooker headers that come with the y-pipe for $350 wouldn't I be better off with SLP headers for just a couple of bucks more? Play with me for a minute...The hooker headers with the y-pipe, a catco convertor, and the hooker cat-back and I'm set right? Nothing else need and it will all bolt together. Sorry for asking alot but I am trying to do this all on a retail salary so getting some on the weld the system in plac eis out of the question. Thanks again for the help.

Direct-fit Catco is Summit p/n CAT-9118, $116.39.
"A couple of bucks more" for SLP's is on the order of $150 after you get the install kit et al. If you have those bucks, few would argue that the SLPs aren't better.
I won't guarentee everything will be perfect with the Hookers and Catco, but it should be close enough to work with minimal tweaking. For instance, I didn't like the small opening on the ball flange on the collector, so I did a fit check of the y-pipe and then opened them up a little (from 1.9" to about 2.25"), centered on the down-pipe. The reason Hooker gave me for that small opening was "to prevent leaks", but I had a hard time buying that. Mine doesn't leak.

i dont remmeber the part number,, just look it up in jegs or summit. i have emmisions to here. Depending on the checks they do there (no under the hood visual) you can get away with these. they dont come with the ugly air tubes, so youll have to get a pretty good cat, and make sure you get it really hot before you take your test. And they didnt come with a o2 sensor, but you can buy a o2 bung and get it welded in. i got a bung for 2 bucks, and had a friend weld it in. since i got rid of the air tubes, then you can ditch the whole air system all togeather, kinda helps clean your engine bay up. well good luck with whatever you choose.

Ok so what if I go with the Hedman Headers, HED-68470 $105, the Hedman Y-Pipe, HED-17470 $100, the catco convertor and the hooker cat-back, 520-16822 $200. Will all fit togetherin a nice neat package and be a 3" system? Thanks for putting up with me guys. By the way Gunny I put the part numbers in there for you...
no its not gonna be a "true" 3 inch system. ok the headers are 1 5/8, down to a 3 inch collecter. then the y pipe is 2.5, but 3 at each end. this will be a nice torque build up for your low end. then run 3 inch from your cat back.
Two more questions and I promise I'll stop....Will the hedman headers fit both my stock LG4 (yes) and the 350 I am building with vortec heads (?)? Also does the set up I listed above seem alright for a engine that will be putting out 350-375HP?
ok they will fit both engines. but the question is. are you gonna have the stock oil pan? my new engine had the moroso sbc 6qt on it, you know the one that looks like they welded a box to it?? well the headers fit, but they wanted to go through the oil pan, so i had to put the stock one back on there! my engine will be pushing 275-300hp as it is right now. i plan on making it do some more in the future. the heddmans are a good set of headers for the price IMO. and ask as many questions as you want, thats what this place is for."the only stupid questions are the ones not asked"...let us know what happens!
