Hey

I have a 1985 IROC Z Camaro with the 305 TPI engine. As u an see from my posts. I have got it narrowed down to 2 catback exhaust systems, Either the American thunder from flowmaster or the hooker catback system. Which of these 2 will give me the most HP and the best mean sound. I am kind of leaning more towards hooker but im not sure. The hooker system that Mark has on his car is the best sounding exhaust I have heard. But People tell me that flowmaster is good. I have heard sound clips of the 80s series mufflers from a soundclip and I think it sounds fake. Does the American thunder sound fake too. Well tell me what you guys think is better for my 305 TPI engine. The Hooker CatBack system or the Flowmaster American Thunder.....

Thanks alot

I have the 80s series on my 305 TPI and I don't think it sounds fake at all. Sound clips only help with what it might sound like. They don't sound like what it really does in real life. I have heard the Flowmaster clips on 305s and they don't sound half as good as they do in real life. The Flow on my car sounds awesome. It is very aggressive and very loud. I noticed an in the seat performance increase as well. The best part is it will get louder and deeper in a couple months. I know this because this is the 3rd car in my family that has a Flowmaster on it. I know Flows don't flow the best but the sound is great. Anyways I don't think you would notice much of a performance difference if you went from a Flow to Hooker, Just sound most likely. Sort of like replacing a paper OEM filter with a K&N OEM size filter. There really is much change unless you do something radical like the whole intake.

I don't remember the exact post, but cfm wise the muffler with the Hooker cat-back outflowed the flowmaster. There were 2 mufflers on the list that outflowed the Hooker though.

Depends. The guys at the header shop wanted me to get the cat-back done first because they needed a 3in cat to be able to hook up the custom y-pipe. They didn't want to replace the cat because of laws so I got it done at another shop. Now that is out of the way it is time for the headers.

Performance wise I would get headers first, but like the above mentioned I would check to see how thing would hook up.

Oh no!! Here we go again!! Hooker. No, Flowmaster. No way, Hooker sounds better!! What Flowmaster did you have cause mine sounds great?

Don't bother asking this question on here. Just flip a coin or something.

Here ya are, Flowmaster cat-back clips:

I appologize for the distortion on these clips (mainly the first one) - I used the crappy integral mic on my laptop.... Not exactly what it will sound like on a stock setup, but at least you will be able to sleep well knowing the potential is there

Laterzzzzzz,
Matt
