Well, i was just thinking, and i dont think anybody has done this, but it would be a ulmimate show stopper, let alone alot of work. Turning your camaro into a 3 seater!! Yes, just like the Mclauren F1. How you sit in the center of the car, and then 2 bucket seats behind you off to each side. The could include moving your shifter to your right, moving the steering wheel to the middle along with the dash. I think it would be sweet. The only problem that is big that is faced is that you would sit on your transmission. That hump would be in the way. So come on, anyone up to do it?

That must be one of the most radical and extreme idea's I have ever heard of on this board. But.. I do think its 99.99999% impossible. It would be a lot easier in a fwd car. I don't see how you would relocate the tranmission.

no no, you wouldnt have to move the transmission. You would just have to modify the tunnel extensivly to make it fit.. I need to find a pic of a F1 interior. It looks sweet...

I would do it.. But my cowl induction.. he he, kinda hard to see over it off to the side of me. If i was staring inside of it.. wow, i would be in some trouble.

The interior of that car show the transmission moved over slighted to the right of the middle to provide room for a seat. But in a thirdgen, apply my above comment.

Easiest done with an auto. Hook up the shifter for one of those steering wheel mounted shifters. Then from there just move the stuff over. You could always goto a drive by wire system for the steering, attaching a servo to steering wheel to record input, then a motor on the pump to move the wheels to steer. As for the dash, you would have to move things around, but it is doable. Pedals, well, you'd either need a custom bent throttle and brake linkage, or you'd have to make it drive by wire again. Cusom fabricate a six point harness behind the drivers seat and possibly convert the rear bench to buckets. It's all doable with the right amount of ingenuity.
Feasable? Not for anything that would be driven daily on teh street. One of the things I enjoy about our cars is the fact that they are low and wide. This means you'd literally have to crawl in and out of the vehicle to get into and out of the drivers seat. Not very comfotable for daily driving. Being 6'4", I find it tough to get into and out of my car. Not really doable for myself.

hey buddie it is possible if you are willing to spend the money to put a corvette transaxle in it it moves your tranny to the rear and your driveline connects your engine to your tranny so you can get rid of the tranny tunnel but you would have to make one behind you good luck on that

you could do something like this, i've already taken/lost my gas/brake pedal, and have to move the steering column as well

With Today's technology, anything can be done with the right amount of time and money. Granted this would be a very expensive project, and I doubt it woul dbe street legal at all, but it is doable. Moving the trans would make things much easier, but only if he could. If not, just mae custom mounts and sit directly about it. Just make sure your not too tall, or you'll have a hard time fitting. But other then that, it is all fixable, so if someone really wanted to go for it, they could accomplish it. Like I stated earlier, I am positive it would not be street legal anywhere, but it would be a sweet show car.

Cut the firewall and the floorpan out, make a new footwell a few inches further forward then the stock one, use your engine of choice and something like a toronodo transaxle under the hatch and build yourself a big, 3 seat fiero.

That’s one that we’re putting into a friend’s 67 Lemans. To avoid all the hacking you can make a custom pan with a sump that will fit the cross member (in our case I cut the rails off of a caddy pan and the bottom off the original 326 poncho pan and mated the 2, then made a pickup out of the caddy pickup, part of the poncho pickup and finally an Opel pickup basket/screen).

As of Thursday night the only thing that it still needs is a fuel pump fitting (apparently they changed them in ’72 and our new pump has the wrong fitting in it, where the hell do you get a 5/16” flair to 1-1/4” adaptor?). We even manage to mate up the 2 air conditioning setups (spent some time making adaptor fittings).

Those supports are cool. Should be a nice stiff body.

BTW, I got the caddy engine running tonight... even with 2.56 gears the car is loads of fun.

What if you just put a rack&pinion in there that would run behind the motor and above the tranny? Just section out part of the firewall so it can be resessed back into the compartment a little. You can have your steering, a wheel in the center of the car, and not have to worry about the steering shaft and gearbox.

The hassle with the front of those engines isn’t the front of the engine, but the oil pump/filter adaptor. It sticks out the front of the timing cover. The nice thing is that there are 2 different versions, both reasonably cheap that mount the filter at different angles, so usually you can find something that won’t hit.
