Creating my own gauge panel for Autometer gauges Part 2

Ok, I FINALLY got some pics for you guys. Mods, please don't delete these pics. I know that there are more than 3, maybe we can make it a sticky/useful info post?? If it is a problem, I can make multiple posts in succession with more pics.

Anyway, here is the first pic. It is the raw material that I am working with. It is some type of fiberboard with a black plastic facing that is textured.....

I simply took the factory black plastic gauge panel cover, and traced the outline onto the back of the fiberboard and got this....

The next step was to put boxes around the circles like so...

After the boxes were drawn, I measure the height and width of the boxes, and made a mark at the halfway point. Then I connected the lines to find the true center of the circle.....

Since I am using a 5 inch tach and speedo plus 2 1/16 gauges I had to do some spacing. For the tach and speedo I simply found the center point of the circle, measured down 1//2 inch, and then out 1/2 inch and redrew the circles with a compass. The smaller gauges were moved by 1/4 inch as seen in this pic....

With the true center of all the holes found in their new adjusted locations, I can use the holesaw to cut them out....

Now all I have to do is cut out the outline of the panel. I don't have any plans to use the warning lights or anything, and as for the turn signals I think that I will use some green LED bulbs. Here is the finished product.

I am sorry that I don't have any Autometer gauges to put in this panel yet and I don't have any pics of it in the car but at least you guys can get an idea of what it took to make it.

It actually came from my toolbox. I have a Matco double bay toolbox, and that material sits on top of the toolbox so that you can write on it, work on it etc. I had an extra piece leftover when I bought my hutch because the piece that came with it was smaller to fit inside. I simply used thie extra piece for this project. I actually talked to my Matco tool guy, and he said that I can get the liner for about $20. the board itself is about 4 /12 feet by 3 feet. the board is big enough that you could make about 8 of these cluster panels.

looks like you might have a problem with the gauge rims touching on the center cluster
