A-Pillar gauges
the only way that i've seen A-Pillar gauges put on is by screwing them on directly to the A-pillar cover. i've always wondered if it's possible to cut out part of the cover and insert the gauge pods from the inside of the cover instead of the outside. has anyone tried this? post pics.

I believe the triple gauge pods from Autometer are a full A-pillar replacement piece, at least that's what I've heard.
As for cutting out the pillar and putting the pod in. That wouldn't work since the single and dual pods are made to fit around the OEM one. You would still have a bottleneck affect on each end. Only way would be to custom make the insert or just make the full a-pillar in one piece.
I would look into the triple A-pillars if I were you.

The Autometer 3-gauge A-pillars aren't a bolt-in replacement, it's just a cover like the rest. The difference is, it covers almost the entire plastic, so the seams aren't visible. I don't like the little mounting tabs they provide, so I put mine on the stock plastic with model cement, then sanded the edges a little to blend it in better. It came out looking pretty good.
I ended up taking it out of the car though....it was pushing on my dashpad and I didn't like that.

autometer makes replacement a-pillar moldings for t-tops as well as hardtops. they are an a-pillar pod that replaces the whole piece.

Nope. Read my previous post. I bought one thinking just that (since it is basically what their ad says, after all) but still had to do some minor fabbing to make it actually stay on the pillar. It doesn't just "bolt-in."

Good I wasn't the only one that thought that. I think it was the Sales people from Jegs or Summit that told me that to begin with when I was on backorder for a triple pod for 5 months.

12203 is NOT A FULL PILLAR REPLACEMENT. It's a full-length cover that mounts to the stock pillar plastic. It will not mount to the steel pillar directly, unless you fabricate brackets and drill holes for screws. All of them are that way (for the third time.) Buy one, wait 6 months for it to come off backorder, and see for yourself. I did.

You got lucky! They eventually just left me a message on my answering machine stating they removed me from the backorder list after how many months it was. That was really nice of them without any questions first.

Go for it; just get a scrap pillar from a junkyard car first. I guess you'd need one of those "plastic welders" (http://www.eastwoodcompany.com) , or maybe you could just join it together with a soldering iron. You'd have to be real careful to try and hide the seam, though.
I guess you could also wrap the pillar in black cloth, too- that would definately hide the seams, and it'd look great, too.
