Anyone make their own removable Laptop mount?
Anyone make their own removable Laptop mount? I'm considering making a stand or bracket setup to hold the laptop so that it is usable from the driver's seat to tune my car. Laptop getting thrown around in the passenger seat...not good. Quick releases off of the floor, velcro straps...any ideas? Sketches?

I have been looking around for the same setup and the best advice I can give you is to try looking on ebay for laptop mounts. there is a ton of them for the car. you can make minor changes to them if you want. there not a lot of money either, type in car laptop stand.
I actually designed one that I was thinking about producing, but wasn't sure there was a market for it. I hate trying to tune my car via laptop and have to reach so far over to get at it. I would post a pic of the design but I am unsure yet if I should produce it, don't want me idea taken. Do you guys think it would be worthwhile to produce such a mount?

if the price is right and you can make them strong enough, sure, poeple would buy em.
I've been thinking of making one recently, one thing that keeps me from playing more than I do is the stupid boxes and cables flopping all over the place, not to mention the laptop is the hardest thing to hold onto with one hand.
some angle iron, some tubing, and good design will go far.
I'm thinking of making the base bolt onto the front passenger seat studs, to place the laptop around the edge of the console, edge of passenger seat, so you can have someone sit there at the same time. then just pop the stand off of the seat mount when you are done, so its out of the way, and the only 'permanent' part is the mount.

If you guys decide you're going to do it, please post some pictures. If someone is interested in building one for the purpose of sale, let me know. Best thing to do in my opinion is use both seat studs for an unintrusive floor mount and use a quick disconnect pin from the stand body. I want mine to hold up under launches and have a high quality ball and socket joint to adjust the position. Velcrow straps to secure the laptop.
Well I have contacted the US patent office in hopes of getting a patent on my idea.
I will tell you I have considered all possibilities of my design and can say I think it is very practical and functional.
My family told me a long time ago that I should get a patent for it and sell it. Now after discussing it with you guys I think I might have something worth producing. I am going to build a prototype while I am waiting on the patent office. I will keep you all posted.

How heavy is your laptop? I thought about mounting mine in my car using an old CB brace/bracket I have. It pretty small and adjustable attaches to the side of the radio pod. I would just have to make a little tray for the laptop and set it in. I'll try and get a picture so you can see what I mean. Be aware, though, that will not work for heavy laptops like mine ~12 lbs., but the lighter ones, <5 lbs, it would be fine.

Mine's a huge one...like 12+lbs with the 17" widescreen. Something is going to need to be pretty sturdy to hold it well during a 10 sec run.
