made this today
I bought this steering wheel on ebay-

The pictures look nice but when I got it, it was hideous. The frame wasn't aluminum, it was steel and it looked like it was cut out with a chisel. The leather didn't look too bad but where the leather met the spokes it just overlapped about 1/4 inch of the metal. the frame was painted this funky black metallic and some of it was on the leather.
I pushed the overlapping leather back between the frame and the filler inside, then I rounded all the edges of the frame and drilled a few holes in it to change the looks a little. My IROC has a leather wheel in it but it loves to ooze this black crap when it's hot out and I had enough. The original wheel mounted with 6 bolts, so I made this adapter to convert it to 5 bolts. I guess I could have bought an adapter but I didn't feel like spending money and I was bored. I'll send pics of the complete install when it's done.

I just sandblasted the frame and gave it a shot of clear. I'm happy with it, it was cheap and it's a little different from what everyone else has.

I wonder how it would look.. if the center piece .. the metal showing (painted silver) .. if it would be painted with the textured black paint.. to match the dashboard hmmmmm

Reason I thought about it is ... I painted the steering wheel I'm going to use one of these days ... but I just sprayed it all with vinyl paint .... and afterwards I thought .. oh **** should have used black wrinkle paint

thank you for your kind words. My next project will be a home made N2O system. i'm using commercial a commercial bottle and solenoids but all the plumbing, injection and metering will be my handywork. It's pretty crazy, a .050 N2O jet will give about 110 horsepower, drill it out ten thousanths to .060 and that's another 50 horsepower. it's pretty easy to see how this could get out of hand really quick. I better have my wife hide my drill set so I don't blow anything up

got a decent shop? maybe you should come by here. Once i get the garage opened up and the welder turned on anything can happen. I don't have anyone in my neighborhood who's into hot rods. Keep an eye out for a small station wagon, I need to start on the turbine project. I want somethig that's front wheel drive, low weight, and a lot of glass in back so everyone can see the turbine back there. A station wagon or a hatchback with a tall rear deck would be cool. I wish there was someone around here who could lend me a hand building this thing, that person would get a spare set of keys for the thing.
Hey kretos, hows that car handle with such a light engine up front? It must be like a big go-kart.

Dangit! I had a Datstun B210 hatchback at one time that would have been perfect! I couldn't bring myself to have it hauled off, so I found a Datsun B210 message board, and kept posting "Free car in Savannah" until someone bit- and they just wanted parts, so I let 'em use my cherry picker, garage and air tools to strip the thing (should have seen to poor Enterprise rental Dodge Caravan with an engine and all crammed in it) then I had the carcass hauled off.
I will look you up next time I'm in the area for sure.

yeah man, come on by, if the wife isn't home we'll fire up the gas turbine. The dam thing shakes the floor! My neighbor across the street said it shook the floor in her house and it sounded like a plane was coming in to crash into her house. Thi9s weekend me and my friend arwe going to try to start his s-10 pickup, it has a J69 turbojet in it. We're all pretty laid back and we'll probably set up some chairs and a cooler full of beer and then take turns burning stuff with the jet blast. The nore the merrier!

Didn't some magazine or something do that where they incinerated an old shed using a jet turbine to do it?
Anyway they then told us how many gallons of fuel it took to do it.
Not a really cost effective means of demolition, but fun!
