Homemade shorty Headers and dual cat.

I had SLP 1 3/4 headers with factory cats and wanted 1 7/8 shorty headers with 3 inch cats, So this is what happens when you have to make them.

Someone finally made something worth a ****! Nice. Looks like you did a nice job. Gotta ask though, what are you building that justifies an 1 7/8" header primary? And also, why were you set on a shorty style header?

My car is used in California and needs to look smog legal. The new motor is a 412 Rodeck with Dart pro 1 heads.

Wow that is great work. Do you make these kinds of things all for a living? I am looking for an exhaust for my 500 HP 383. I am thinkin of LTs and dumping it. But if I could get my hands on somehting like that I would be in better shape. I don't need cats though.

Thx for any insight.

WOW! i am impressed.

can you post details of how you made them? Where did you get the tubing? Pre-bent ? what is the parts list? how big are the Y pipes? Are there any fitment problems?

My headers are very differant then SLP. See the drivers side collector is pointed back and the drivers side pipe runs under the torque converter, You can only do this if you run a 9" torque converter ( I have a "Yank super stock 3600" in the car) The drivers side is about 1" from the steering shaft and a lot of SLP installs it hits. With SLPs the number eight plug will hit the number six tube with some aftermarket aluminum heads and not with my headers. I will post a picture with both so you can see all the changes.

beautiful job! I bet they are a pita to get into the car though, and what kind of clearances do you have on the passanger side with the cats mounted there? The shop i took my 86 T/A too did basically the same thing without the cats, and it sticks down another inch and a half or so when its on the car.

Very nice work. You must have a few hours tied up in those. I like your choice for a header to pipe connection. If you can get at them it should make f'ing around with collector bolts much easier.
Cudo's to your fabricating skills!

Those are great looking headers man!! Right on. Like others have posted did you start out with a kit or do all the bending yourself?

I started with a set of flanges, collectors, eight 1 7/8 U bends and two J bends.
You can get them at http://www.schoenfeldheaders.com/product.htm
The rest is up to what you can fit in the car.

Did you do any pipe bending yourself of did you just cut and weld different pieces together?

All I did was just cut and weld parts of U & J bends. I don't have a 1 7/8 die for my bender and the die set is way more then the $125 for all the 1 7/8s prebent tubing. The sad part is I have 1, 1 1/4, 1 3/8, 1 1/2, 1 5/8, 1 3/4 and 2" die sets.

Those look nice.

I can see what u mention about improving on the SLP design lol

Judging by te outward sweep of the pipes before they curve back down and in, u can actually chang eplugs fairly easily too

nice work
