There are guys who have done it to the 91-92 blistered hoods. And IMHO it looks like a lot of work for no real good reason. A tinny bit of heat extraction, that pretty much it. I would just get a better radiator, same difference.

I am working on one myself but its really hard to make functional with a TPI if you want to keep the rain out. Carb and TBI is what I am workin on right now. Blisters will work like butterflys. I will let you know.

Thanks, please keep me posted. It's funny it is the one thing on IROC's that doesn't work for me, I mean they look cool but it's that old form versus function thing I guess. I did a pretty thorough search and found some hoods where they opened the louvers up with a dremel and a pic of Earnhardts IROC hood and what the production IROC's were trying to emulate but no one has solved the water problem for street use. Ultimately, it is a lot of work for very little in return but then again we're Third Gen nuts so anythings possible! Off the top of my head and way out of my *** would be a setup that would be temperature activated, water tight, automatically opening and closing.

You see the 'doors' at the rear of the black areas.

Well I solved the water problem that was actualy pretty easy.
Just think of the Iroc louvers as window blinds in your house. Not the twist to open kind but the pull to open kind. Then put rubber seals to fill the gap when close just to keep the majority of the water out and to keep all the fun things that like to craw up in there or fall in. Then a simple pully system just like you would work a bicycles brakes so that opening and shutting the hood will not effect the operation.
Ok enough for now.

Thanks guys, great ideas and that is a great thread on the subject. It's funny, everytime I have to put on a tie, I get the same feeling as when I look at those louvers - Yes, it looks good but no real purpose. I'll guess I'll have to add it on the endless project list - this will be Number 9 on the "Have to do to the IROC before I die list" Thanks again for all the incredible info - Mike

I like how those look but I want to make mine from metal and make them open with the butterflys on the Carb or TBI so it looks like its truely breathing :-)

i did it on my 1989 iroc. have pics can post if interested. rubber seal with a polycarbonite flat plate painted flat black. looks insane and the dips in the hood leave it almost flat at the back and only 1 inch rise on the front of the scoops. email me for more info. im thinking about marking these. already have a patent so i want to know what you think.
thanks

Looks cool but for me, if and when I build it, they will look stock and be functional. I don't generally drive her in the rain but with all the rain we have had here in California over the last few years and especially here on the coast I'll need to make them watertight and/or contend with the water in some fashion.
It looks like your setup could be turned into a functional Ram air setup for a carbed/TBI system. Looks tough from the front.
Too bad your selling it though - One too many projects?
