That is a nice job. Do you have any pics where it mounts to the back of the car? BranZ
Yes I do but it puts me over my pic limit i think. Maybe the mods will have mercy on me since these pics will actually be helpful so some folks on here.

Beautiful work! What side tubing did you use for them? I need to tighten up my 91 Z28. Did you use a hydraulic bender for the bends. Please share, please share. BranZ
The main tubes down the sides is 1.5x.157" so it is pretty strong stuff. The tubes that tie into the front subframe are 1.5x.125". I used 1/8" (.125") plate in the back where the tubes tie into the control arm mounts and welded it as far around the perimeter as I could reach with the torch. I also used plates where the tubes meet the front subframe. Up front I welded the tube to the plate then I welded the perimeter of the plate to the car and I also drilled 4 holes in the plate and plug welded the plate to the frame as well. I wanted to spread the load where the tubes attached to the chassis which is why is used plates everywhere. As many will tell you welding the tubes to the body seam is a challenge wo get good penetration but not burn through the thin sheet metal. I eventually got it though. I used a cheapo bender of my Dad's. It is basically a 12 ton bottle jack in a frame with dies. I used a sawzall to make all of my cuts. I also used a grinder and a welder to complete the task.
They are really not as heavy weight wise as I thought they would be but they seem strong. I still have not taken the car off the jackstands yet because I am installing new carpet, but the doors already shut better which suprised me.
Bring on more opinions, I want to see what you guys think.

I was thinking the same thing.
they look good though. I like how the rear plates extend to include the bolts for the LCA's

For not being a fab guy, they look like they were made by a fab guy. It looks & sounds like you used the right material. Nice job.
Thanks for the compliments guys. My seats should be done in about a week so. Then I can have the car on the road again barring any increased salt application here in northwest OH.
By torch guys I meant MIG welding torch. I used a Lincoln MIG welder.
THanks again for the compliments guys, keep them coming!

What model of Lincoln is it? The reason I am asking is beacuse I will be getting a welder soon and was thinking about the Mig-Pack 3200. Just wanted to hear some input.
besides the braces in the front they look almost identical to the GW ones... The only other difference that I see is that the back plate goes all the way to the pivot bolt where then GW ones don't.
Aren't there some that actually come with braces like that?

*LOL* I got some tubing at work, but it sure is thicker than .120, may be very very close to .20 or even .25 sure a bit heavy but hey it'll be stiff alright.
I love when people post pics of their homemade SFC's.
Good job !

I think this is one of the posts that the mods were talking about that would loose the attachments over the re-do.

my hotchkiss SFC's went all the way back to the lca bole hole. I can't see the pics anymore, so i'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing though. The only other difference that I see is that the back plate goes all the way to the pivot bolt where then GW ones don't.

Also thinkin of makin a rear panhard bar out of the same square tubing- is this ok or do i have to use round tubing?

I could be talked into making a set or two. I'll have to check material prices and get a quote around.

If your gonna make a couple sets, it would be nice if i could attain one. Very nice craftsmenship on those. They look as nice or nicer than some commercial branded ones.
