just wondering...
Does anybody know what the positive benefits are to removing the smog pump on a 3rd gen 92 RS? I Already did exhaust wk (no cat) and running single in dual out, Have 3.73 rears, TBI spacer block, open air filter, and before u ask yes I know it takes a 6k968 serp belt and I do know the "other" belt routing pattern. I just would like to know how removing the pump will help in the overall perf. Thanks.

Well, without the cat, the smog pump isn't doing much good for ya.
It'll free up a teeny bit of HP, the drag of the pump that is. A little bit of weight savings. And a less cluttered engine bay.
Might as well, not like it's doing anything now.

Since your cat doesn't require it, Sonix has your answer. You'll save MAYBE a whopping 1/2 HP at peak RPM, but you won't have to listen to the annoying "putter-putter" of the air being dumped from the diverter and will have a little more space, less weight to drag around.
If the system was intact, you might consider selling it to someone who has removed their's but needs one for visual emissions inspection - Or just store it away somewhere for when inspections come to your area.
Of course, you may want to make sure you don't get any error codes after removing it before you put it up on ebay .

You shouldn't get any error codes from it, I did the same to my camaro.
The engine bay area became cleaner was the biggest thing i liked. Saves some weight maybe 10 lbs give or take. Not much HP increase.
Its pertty simple to do, but if like me you have ac in the car still, the passenger side rear will be a pain, but both side rears are.
But since you have no cat, i see no need for the smog pump, so remove it i say.

if the air system is in good wqorking order then theres no real point in removing it, its not taking nay power out of your engne and its actually helping to keep the worlds air a little cleaner because it injects some fresh ait into the exh manifolds which helps to burn unburnt fuel in the exhaust gases
it doesnt rob any hp from you
i would leave it alone if its all good working order
save yourself some headache,
good luck
