trailing arms on my s-10?
well, i got traction bars on my truck and the problem is the lowering leaves i have are too flat for how these bars were built. so there just laying on the frame, all the time, giving me a really crappy ride. i was wondering, how much lateral movement do leaf springs give when looking at the truck from the side? from lowest point of travel to the highest, how much do you think the axle moves front to back? i was thinking about putting trailing arms on my truck and getting rid of these traction bars. just would poly- bushings be able to take up the back and forth movement of the axle from the leaves flatening out?
or would i even need bushings?
and grade 8, 5/8" threaded rod should be plenty right? with some "heavy duty self lubricating" rod ends from jegs.

*ahem, trying to stay polite here*
if you ask us *politely* about the powertrain in your S10, since it's a 3rd gen powerplant, we can help you out.
But why the hell would we be experts on an S10 suspension, and leaf springs? Since you seem to already be a member on an S10 forum, wouldn't that be a better place to post that question?
Don't you start mouthing off to the senior members on here or you'll be getting the boot rather quickly.

like i said, not everyone we get thats posting over on the s-10 bourds aren't owners of s-10's. we do actually get quite a few of you guys over on s-series. again, like i said, we don't give you a hard time, so instead of giveing me attitude about "o its not third gen related" how about just ignoring the post, or answering to the best of your ability just like we do with you guys and even some ford guys we get on our sites. its obvious that i'm not just some random kid posting on this site about some random topic seeing the "stats" on my truck and the amount of posts i have...i've only come to you guys for two reasons, help with my TPI swap, and a second opinion on when i rebuilt i rear. i wanna second opinion on this now because i bet not everyone on here knows only thirdgen's, some people do work on other types of vehicles...
so just ignore the post if you don't have anything constructive to say...

what you mean put them to angle the traction bars down? i already have them, i have a set of 2 degree ones and a set of 4 degree, 4 degree is too much and 2 isn't enough, have you seen any 3 degree ones?

Trailing arms on my S10?
I think Jackman wants to replace his traction bars with a trailing arm and keep his leaf springs. If this is the case it is not possible because as leaf springs compress the distance from the front mounting point of the leaf spring to the center of the axle increases. If a trailing arm is added between the frame and the axle it will not allow the leaf spring to compress and the rear suspension will basically become solid causing some interesting hangling problems. Under any kind of power straight line acceleration will produce wheel hop and cornering will become a contest to see if the rear end can beat the front end through the turn. As we have several performance S10's hanging around the patch, I can tell you that if you are producing any kind of real power the only cure is a back half 4 link suspension.
