Ttop box

I have an iroc-z with ttops and was sick and tired of having no place to store them in the car. My ttop bag is dry rotted so its useless and i always thought that there had to be a better way then the bag to store them. So i decided to make a box to store them. I made the box out of plywood and then covered it in black felt. I think it came out pretty good, what do you guys think.

Re: Ttop box

Looks pretty good man. I was thinking of something similar since my Ttop bag is in rough shape.

It does look kinda big, both high and long. Looks like they have some room to slide back and forth inside.

Yeah, it looks like you added a lot of weight to the back of that car. As far as convenience goes though, it looks pretty sweet! I was thinking of making something similar to what the fourth gens have where you latch them in the bottom, might be hard though.

Re: Ttop box

Thanks alot guys
At first i was thinking of putting the box in the well area, but the ttops were too tall. Its alittle big but with the hatch shut it fits really well, i tried to take a pic with the hatch shut but it didn't come out cause of the glass.

Re: Ttop box

i actually put some thought into this before i even did work on my camaro. but if you have a amp rack or something similar on the level part of the trunk if there is enough clearance stick some foam or somethin in there with a slice down the middle and slide them inside. its then protected from ratteling and bangin around by the foam.

Re: Ttop box

Hmm i'd love to do something like this, have any DIY instructions? it'd help prevent scratching/peeling of my T-Top painted railings. the bags zipper scratches the paint off unfortunately.

Nah, weight needs to be removed from the front, but not added to the rear

Re: Ttop box

Has anyone ever made something like the factory 4th gens to hold the t-tops? They have like this molded channel thing that the tops just slide into.

Re: Ttop box

I honestly dont see how the bags held the ttops in place when properly secured to the back end...for people without the hatch fold down lid i'd think the bag would rip/sag down into that hole area. Another thing: when driving hard (taking turns and accelerating fast) i would think that would have ripped the bags straps right off due to the weight shift of the ttops...

Re: Ttop box

If the straps are tight the tops don't move, and I hoon on my car hard. And I like the bag because it doesn't take up any room when the tops are on the car. The box is a cool idea and it looks like it secures the tops well, but I think it may be to bulky and heavy for most people.

Re: Ttop box

the t-tops both fit tightly in the rear cargo well, one with the glass down, one glass up. They fit pretty sung and i have never had an issue with them moving. I fail to see why everybody has such a problem figuring that out? No need for a big goofy looking t-top box that will KILL YOU if you ever rearend somebody.
