CNC plastics
ok, what I have in my firebird Is a 6-speed so.... I want to take the 5-speed shift pattern and make a 6-speed pattern that looks 99% or as close to the same look but showing the t56 pattern. (this way it still has the numeric numbers that light up at night)
now I am no CNC guy at all but i know someone who can make the pattern in autocad for me. would it be possiable to have this made at a shop with a CNC with little trouble using the cad specs? or is this some major under taking for a CNC operator

Re: CNC plastics
That's definately doable. You'd need a new piece of plastic right? I don't think the pattern is such that you can simply cut your existing one right?
Ask the CNC operator, each CNC setup is slightly different. If they have the software to import a 3D MODEL (not some stupid 1980's 2d crap) into their CNC modelling software, then it's easy as pie.
Ideally the shop should be experienced in machining plastics, it's a whole different ballgame from steel or aluminum.

Re: CNC plastics
with that easy of a job screw the program they can go into override mode and do it with the zero out function while having the bit spinning. It would take five minutes and cost you probably a ton. lol!

LOL hawks third gen sells them. It's like 25 bucks I think. Look in the 82-92 firebird section, interior section, center console section.

Re: CNC plastics
as for the hawks insert, I think it lacks the factory look a bit ...
I don't think I can sell enough of what i want to build to offset the cost on my end. I do have another Idea that I think would just plain rock. but I don't want to let the cat out of the bag until I have it done if I even bother having it done

Re: CNC plastics
didn't really want the 6-speed but no one would help out just the trash talk on how the t56 is soooo great
anyway it's what I have and I have my car looking like a factory setup through and through so I just want the fine details to match Supreme Member

Re: CNC plastics
yea well a six speed is more fun, the gears are a little closer to each other, i cant say if i would put a 5 speed back in it or not if it were mine, but givin the 6 speed aint stock, i think that the one on hawks is close enough, couldnt find the spohn one
.......
one thing if you wanted that all stock look, you could sell the 6 speed and have enough money to get a 5 speed with a fresh rebuild, short throw, and a good clutch

Re: CNC plastics
the one I had was rebuilt with the super alloy cluster gear, 3rd and I belive I had the new input shaft but i sold it with the papers so I can't recall what I had into that one.
the way I really wanted to use it is until i could get a tko which would have been a very similar fit. I guess what is done is done though
. I did get the hawks insert and I bet sophn was selling one of hawks inserts they may have a first batch or something. since they like to sell stuff for each other. spohn just has a better setup when it comes to paying for stuff online (shipping prices on the spot
) thanks for the help and
