c-clip elimiators on a 7.5 10 bolt
was just curious if anyone has done this yet
i dont have the money for a new rear and so far ive been lucky witht he stock rear.but i now have a welded open diff in the car.i.e homeade spool and im really worried about snaping an axle cause i have drum brakes.
there is no suck thing as a c-clip eliminator kit for a 7.5/7 5/8ths rear
so heres what im doing
i got a stock 10 bolt housing out of a 2nd gen which they make c-clip eliminator kits for
heres the plan
cut the housing ends off the 2ndgen and my rear
reweld the 2ndgen housing ends onto my rear, and use the 2ndgen backing plates, the drum brakes are the same between both the backing plates are diff though.
i do not know if im going to narrow the rear but i may .5 to 1 inch for tire clearance.
the 2ndgen eliminator kits will fit on the stock axles, they just dont fit the 3rdgen housing ends thats why i have to weld on the 2ndgen ends.
if i measured right i should be able to narrow the rear upto 1 inch on each side and have enough spline engagement on the axles if i cut them.
if i dont narrow the rear i wont have to even cut the ends of the axles
yeah i know its a watse of time but all this is costing me nothing, we had the stock 2ngen 10 bolt housing and an eliminator kit.but atleats ill have piece of mine about not worring if im going to break an axle with the spool in the rear

There is a c-clip eliminator for the 7.5 but chances are you'll break the teeth on the tiny ring and pinion before you break an axle.

Re: c-clip elimiators on a 7.5 10 bolt
our housing ends are difefrent they do not fit, we have a set of 7.5 c-clip eliminators at the shop they will not go on a 3rdgen housing unless u change the housing
ends. ima have to post up pics when i do mine. actually rob u gonan be around tongiht? i think i might actually be able to get the trans out of the car tongiht

Dave, the Strange kit posted above works for BOTH G & F Body's, and so does the Moser kit below as well.....

If you're running fast enough where you need c-clip eliminators, stop wasting money on the 7.5" 10 bolt.

Re: c-clip elimiators on a 7.5 10 bolt
if i had the money to put in a diff rear i would, ive actually gota dig around my shop i should have enough 9" parts that alls id have to do is buy a new housing for 400$'s though
----------
its not that im going that fast yet its more of the street driving that im worried about breaking them with the spool im sure the axles see alot more abuse during day to day street driving with the spool then the do down the track

Re: c-clip elimiators on a 7.5 10 bolt
A third gen bolt in 9" housing with axle package is around $1000. You might as well get it with axles since they'll be the proper length and the cost of aftermarket axles later will cost more. Just add your own center section and brakes. Depending what axle spline count you have in the carrier (posi/spool), I'd recommend going to 31 spline axles. My car is at the upper limits of 31 spline axles. Too many street cars have 33, 35 or 40 spline axles which they don't need.

Re: c-clip elimiators on a 7.5 10 bolt
And be amazed when you go to rebuild it, and it costs more to rebuild it than to buy a 9" setup. And that's if you can find someone willing to sell you the parts.
Re: c-clip elimiators on a 7.5 10 bolt
they r not as expensive as they used to be......i just re built one rescently
besides i didnt imply rebuilding one there are good ones out there too

Re: c-clip elimiators on a 7.5 10 bolt
i sold my old 9 bolt with 40k on it complete with brakes for 350$'s a while back almost wish i had kept it,but even those will break, atleast the 7.5'er i have atleast 6 ring and pinion sets laying around the shop
i did look around my shop and i have quite a few useable 9 inch centers with posi i can use,and god knows how many diff gear sets, and axle sets im sure i have a set there i can cut to the right lenght or cut and have resplined, sill cheaper then new ones.
so for now ill put the c-clip eliminators on the 7.5 rear and just buy a empty 9 inch housing from moser for 400$'s(when i can get the cash saved) and transfer over the mounts/brackets and buy one of the 9inch tq arm kits

Re: c-clip elimiators on a 7.5 10 bolt
no reason a 9bolt would cost more. even gears are now about the same in price. only real price differance is buying a New posi. but the 9bolt has a semi-rebuildabe one.
so lets say you find a 9-bolt for 300.00 and the "good" posi is worn just follow my old tech writeup and you are done

Re: c-clip elimiators on a 7.5 10 bolt
yes easy re-builds
$165 for r+p to the door
posi cones i bought for $177 to the door
bearing kit was around $170
had to buy axle bearings and seals $70
i bought a t/a rear cover for $165
