Need Input on possibly making taillights
Hello All,
Im asking you guys/girls input on some taillights. I currently am unsatisfied with the choices for aftermarket taillights and black cover ups are a little unprofessinal. I currently mold and cast plastic parts, my question is if i were to start making light to dark black smoked clear lenses for my camaro would anyone else be interested in these as well? The lights will not be a stick-on or painted over deal they will be casted in liquid plastic in a mold of the stock OEM lenses all that would be required would be to remove the stock lenses from the tail light housing and silaconing the smoked lenses to the housing. With you guys/girls opinion i would be making these to sell (of coure if they look good and turn out the way i envision. If you guys/girls think its a good idea then i'll go forward and cast a set and post some pictures for you final thought. take the poll and post away!!!!! sorry about any spelling errors!
Thanks,
Mike W.

There has been interest in tail lights like that...

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
I think they would sell, especially if they were clear. Clear meaning not reflective but any color aka transparent, like modern taillights on modern cars. Then add a tinted look or whatever.
There is really nothing out there on the aftermarket which is sad because even fox-body mustangs have aftermarket headlights/taillights available.
Maybe you could make some firebird parts...

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
Thanks Stephen for the link. Thats exactly what im trying to create but $250 for a taillight is a little absurd. im making the lenses only so the cost im looking at is about $75 for mold resin and liquid plastic.
----------
After the possible camaro taillights ill look in to firebird taillights!!!

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
I like the ones that CrazyHawaiian designed. I would pay a lot of money to have a set like those
They would have to be smooth all across it and not bumpy like the stockers. No dividing lines appearing on the outside of the different light up sections. But still have the sections work like normal (except the reverse lights of course). Now, if they were LEDs......

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
the horazontal divided lights is a good idea. that would be made possible by modifying the housing then casting it in plastic. ill look in to that thanks!

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
I want ones that look like factory 92 camaro tailights, yet are blacked out, without having to buy those covers
Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
NP. let me know how it works out or if you need any help. I think it would be awesome to have the reverse lights in the middle. They would have to be pretty bright tho.

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
the lights would just be a led light array simple solution. it wouldnt be a direct fit to the stock bulbs but would look much better than the pitdly stock bulbs.

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
mcwood... you say you mold and majke plastics? If you would like to make a small fortune, make the header panels for convertibles(where the visor bolts on) almost everybody on this site with a vert would buy em.

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
90% are cracked pretty bad. i covered mine and made a shitty fiberglass one that didnt go over too well so i trashed it. I havnt put mine back on yet tho. i think theres a broken one at the wrecking yard here i can see about snaging if you want to go ahead with the project.

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
if you can mold those, there are tons of little stock plastic pieces that nobody makes for convertibles, let alone custom pieces you could fab. I bug ecklers everytime they are at the local car shows about making third gen pieces. (fiberglass trunk lid, more agressive spoiler) But for the most part, that trim piece is at the top of everyones list. Ive seen them go for 300 on ebay.

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
im real interested in a pair of taillights; the pair that crazy hawaiian has up there would look great you should really try to mock up a set like that. they would sell like crazy
Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
i agree...crazyhawaiin's idea would be great...simple and different...and i think that if you did a dark smoked color instead of read it would set it off even more...so that it was smoked, white, and smoked
----------
oops...typo...i meant to say make the RED portions smoked out instead lol...my bad

Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
this is the general idea ive got. sorry about the quality im at work and only have the paint program.
Re: Need Input on possibly making taillights
No wrap around? I could see that still being good if the lights sat flush with the bumper and didnt have that damn lip. Even if you didnt have the wrap around light up, I still think it would be good. What are your thoughts on the smoked red or plain bright red? I have a Medium Maui Blue (light blue for you non-painters) Camaro and I dont know if smoked would look good or just keep the bright red. They would greatly compliment my shaved door handles though!
