ram air with stock t/a hood

here's what ive been thinking. i have a stock t/a hood with the vents on my 87 t/a. would it considerably weaken the hood if i open the support under the front vents to allow for ducting for a ram air intake? its either that or mod it for a shaker found a good write up on one. i just think it would be easier to get a carb hat and tubing. or my friend has a dual snorkel air cleaner from a vette he is willing to sell me. could fab up some dual tubing and route in to the vents in the front. anyone ever done anything like this at all? how functional do you think it would be. im hoping the screens in the vents would help prevent water getting in.

Turning the front 2 vents into functional intakes, is nothing new

Look around on TGO & you can find pics.
