Re: Weight?

Find a truck scale and drive across it. There are way too many option packages to give a rough estimate. An RS is a lot lighter than a Z28 but it's still impossible to give a weight guess. It could be anywhere from 2800 to 3600 pounds.

Re: Weight?

At your local garbage dump, or a junkyard. Yes, they are usually free, unless you are unloading garbage while you are at the dump.

Re: Weight?

Garbage dumps have them, most junkyards have them. You may be able to find a self weigh scale along a highway. Most industrial parks and truck stops have pay scales for trucks to use. Even some trucking companies have their own scale.

I weigh my car every spring to see what the season's race weight will be after the winter projects. I use a pay scale and it only costs $10. I drive the front wheels on the scale and stop until it takes a reading. Drive the whole car on and get a reading. Drive off and stop with the rear wheels on the scale and get a reading. The front and rear weight should equal the total. Doing it this way tells me what the weight ratio is of the car. Mine is still nose heavy with 1800 on the front and 1300 on the rear. A good weight ratio for a drag car is 50/50. The only way I could do that would be to cut out the firewall and move the engine back about 6".

Check your local yellow pages. You can also try asking truckers where a free scale might be.

Re: Weight?

My '89 IROC with T tops weighs 3440 give or take depending on how much gas it has and some handtools in the back. It's a 305 TPI auto car.

Yours might be 31 or 3200.

Re: Weight?

The subs have probably offset the stuff you've taken out. Probably right around stock weight.
I've always wondered if T-tops made the car weigh more or less.

Re: Weight?

seen these specs given for '82 z with and without t-top
cars were both CF/auto/4whl disc:
hardtop-3440
t-top-3480
so looks like t-top adds about 40 lb

Re: Weight?

Don't know if it helps, but I still have my sticker on the door of my 1992 RS - states GVWR of 3414. The car was a 305 TBI A/C and T-Top (Lexan tops) with 16in rims.

Re: Weight?

If you have any road racers or circle burners around, see if they have a set of scales... I have a set of 4 wheel scales and pads... For racers, it sure does make chassis tuning a lot easier. Conneticut has a bunch of racers and race shops, might want to check with them. Doubt it would be free, but the information is great for reference...It will give you total weight, front and rear weight, cross weight and many other things to ponder and use as a tool!!!!

Re: Weight?

When my car was nearly all stock weight wise besides the spare tire being gone I weighed in at 2050lb FAW and 1450 RAW.
Since then I have removed the a/c stuff, converted to electric fans, electric cooling pump, I have light weight corvette heads in the machine shop and waiting to get them back and I am in the process of moving the battery in back.
I wonder what all that will do...
