Lambo door fab... ?? help
Lambo door fab... ?? help
Hey guys gotta question about AUTOMATIC lambo doors. I got the hinges already, but was wondering if i need a certain type of actuator, like length wise. Also, when i install shaved door kit, will i just hook this up to actuator like with the automatic remote, or do i need to get another remote for actuator, i wouldn't think i would but im not sure. Just trying to get the right size actuator and the right stuff. Also, with the shaved door kits, does is matter the lbs of the solenoid ive seen um from 15 to 50, just wondering, i can get a great deal on new kit that has 15lb solenoid, but just wonderin if this will work for my camaro!! let me know and if you could address each question i would appreciate it thanks..

Re: Lambo door fab... ?? help
I was thinkin about doin this at one point but decided against it because of the weight of the doors. Ik autolock makes a fully automatic universal kit, may want to see what all that has to figure out what youll need if you don know already. Also may want to check out see if there is some forums about lambo doors and if all else fails you might have to look on a r!cer forum. Idk if anyone else has done lambo doors on here but the people on those other forums may be quite a bit of help

Fully dressed, power everything, third gen doors are 105 pounds each. It takes very little effort to pull the release lever. If in doubt, use a fish scale to see how much effort is required.

Not very familier with the lambo door stuff but i'm pretty sure you would still need the struts in the hinges to help with the weight of the door. Just like a garage door still needs helper spring with an opener.
As far as how many channels that all depends on how you want it to work but I would guess 4. one to unlatch each door and one to auto open each door individually. I assume you can get rid of the power lock actuator because there wouldn't be much use for them anymore. however if you have an alarm you would need a channel for to arm and disarm and I always liked to have a trunk relase. so that would put you at 6 and if you want remote start 7.

Re: Lambo door fab... ?? help
I shaved the door handles on my Camaro when I first got it. I think I used 35lb solenoids and they are plenty. I found a rebadged Autoloc kit on Ebay for cheap. Actually, they are bit too much. They REALLY make a "THUNK" when they open the doors. You could probably get away with 15lb or 20lb solenoids.
As for channels, it depends on how many functions you want to control and how you want to control the doors. Obviously you need to do each door separately so that's 2 channels right there. If you want the doors to open and swing up in one motion then you can probably get away with one channel. You could do it with 2 button presses if you want, but that would add 2 more channels.
What you need to find out is how far out the doors swing when you pop them with the shaved kit. My doors don't pop out far enough to swing up on lambo hinges if I had them. I don't have any spring-loaded pushers though and if you add those it may swing the door out far enough for the lambo hinge to work.
So you're most likely at 4 channels there. A trunk release is real nice so thats 5 channels. If you have an alarm thats more channels. FWIW, my shaved remote has 8 channels and I'm currently only using 3 channels - 1 for each door and 1 for the trunk. I'll be using another soon to roll my windows down automatically so I don't have to open the doors to take my T-tops off.

Re: Lambo door fab... ?? help
my alarm has 7 channels, i'm doing suicide doors, shaved handles. once you shave the handles there's no use for door locks so you can use the door lock circuit for some things too but it's a switched polarity circuit... so not too useful.
i'm using 3 channels: trunk, door pop 1, door pop 2. then if you count remote start as a channel there's another, and then i still arm and disarm. plenty of room to expand
