Trans AM Taillights in Camaro Body?

Short question, will 89 Trans-Am tail lights slip into where the 89 Camaro tail lights are? I read some where they did, but would like to verify. I know some modding might be involved, but ... yadda yadda. Thoughts?

Also the rear bumpers, do they swap over as well? I dont see why F-Body parts wont fit in any F-Body car. Just want to make sure.

Thanks!

Re: Trans AM Taillights in Camaro Body?
They'll fit, you just need to swap the quarter panels and the panel that the tail lights mount to.
I don't know if rear bumpers would swap over (I think they should), but if you swap to a 'bird or Trans Am rear bumper you'll have 2 rear license plate mounting locations.

Re: Trans AM Taillights in Camaro Body?
if you look at the back of the two cars, they are totally different, the camaro lights wrap around the sides, where the birds do not. You would have to, like above, swap the quarters, or try to just cut the back off an dtry to graft it together. Its a lot of custom sheetmetal work, and unless you know what you are doing, it can turn into a disaster.

there is a old pic floating around somewhere here of a camaro showcar with firebird quarters and lights

I never really got to close a look at the one I saw. But I remember reading somewhere that the camaro bumper is alot larger than the trans am maybe? Plus the whole front clip would have to have been swapped out (not to say that it's any more or less work than quarter panels) who knows ha ha. Personal opinion though, crossover models are pretty sweet.

So many other's have turned out to be complete disasters. I don't know if its been done yet, but I would like to see a vette rear end on a camaro! IMO, if you want to be different and standout, using a vette rear would do it for me!

IMO: I dont think vette tail lights should go on a squared off boxy (sorta) car that our f-bodies already kinda are. I can agree I have never seen one that has been done "correctly". Although the idea is truly unique I would never do it to my own.

Re: Trans AM Taillights in Camaro Body?
Corvettes came with square tail lights in the late 80's and early 90's. In may have been on the ZR-1's. But they did have them!!!

Google up some pic's of the late 80's vettes, and you'll see that they aren't as bubbly as you may think they are. True, it would take some hard work, maybe even go to a body shop for some Finishing work, but I think it could be done nice and neatly with a Vette rear along with the Vette square tail lights.

Re: Trans AM Taillights in Camaro Body?
y84pauloflondon, you are right the 91-96 Vettes had square taillights that had the corners rounded off a little bit. The 84-90 Vettes had oval taillights.

Like everyone else has said to make T/A taillights to work on a Camaro, you need to change the quarter panels and the rear bumper to the ones used on the T/A.

Re: Trans AM Taillights in Camaro Body?
Oh yeah, of course, either way its going to be a big fab/body job. I just think that using a Vette rear will give his Camaro the "Big WOW" factor...... As long as its done well!!!!

IMO, the Firebird and Camaro are BOTH f-bodys, and are too similar too really notice a Camaro w/Firebird tail lights.

There are alot of Hack-job f-body's out there! Its his ride, he can do whatever he wants, I wish him luck and that his car looks good and he's happy with it after he's done with it!

Re: Trans AM Taillights in Camaro Body?
it would be a lot easier to run a camaro front clip on a trans am or firebird..

I have been debating it for a good while now. The main reasoning behind it is because the Trans Am doesnt have an opening in the bumper...thats no good for an intercooler

I like my plan better.(compare left to right) I'll be getting to work on this as soon as it warms up some.

Edit:

No, I'm not just going to paint the top row black, I'm going to cut and weld and modify it til it works!

it would deffinately be easier(not saying its easy to do) the Transmaro where the trans am has the camaro front end, its been done on this board before and looks pretty darn good

It's been done, an IMO, it looks like crap. when I redo mine, I'm welding in new metal where the lights were, those bolt on vette lenses, are obviosly bolt on, not a whole lot of custom there, which, IMO takes away from the cool factor big time. which again, IMO wasn't there to begin with.

id like to see a picture of one, ive never seen any thirdgen with a vette rear of any kind

not saying it would look good, because IMO a thirdgen should stay true to a thirdgen F-body's design

but i would like to see the bolt on version done
