Window Switch Box W/ Pictures
Window Switch Box W/ Pictures
It is not perfect, but serves a purpose... I need somewhere to put my window switches as I'm not using the center console. I have a B&M quicksilver shifter installed to go with the Transgo full-manual reprogram kit trans and a fire extinguisher mounted between the driver and passenger seats. In between the extinguisher and the shifter is a space approx. 7 1/2".
Designed a box to mount there that will bolt down through the Parking Brake mount spot with longer bolts. The harness for the driver and pass. window switches will feed under the driver side of the box. That side is about 2 1/2", the pass side of box is 3 1/4" tall. That 3/4" gap on the driver side is enough the for the harness to pass under. I then figured, well thats unused space on the top of the box, what if I want a coffee? I have no cup holder! And so I drew a cup holder and had my brother cut the hole and weld that up too.
The box is made from Stainless 18 ga. It is solid, used a flapper wheel on a grinder to clean the tigged welds up. I then sanded it, and applied some body filler to smooth out some areas, mainly up top around the cup holder. I then sprayed some primer. After the primer came two coats of aerosol under coating. Used the same primer and under coating for the plastic (previously plastic chrome looking) B&M piece for the shifter. I'll add that picture later.

Waiting for the shifter cover to dry and will then be installing it, as soon as I do I'll be taking pics and uploading them ASAP.
Quick note, this is the shifter installed, without the black shroud and the top cover, the box is going directly behind it. For the cover, painted it on an old speaker bracket seen below.

Cool idea with the cup holder. Thats the one thing that really sucks about third gens. I am toying with the idea of making a completely new center console at some point soon and never thought about putting a cup holder in. I will now add that to the plans.

Again, it isn't perfect, I have to put two more screws in for the shifter cover and paint the heads black to match. Also have to put the rubber cover/boot on for that the handle goes through. The driver side floor pan is dirty, need to wipe down the inside of the car. Will get pics with my camera when I finish this all up. Cell pics for now, can see in the one pic harness comes up from under the driver seat and under the box to the switches.
