need opinions on an idea
ok so i had an idea, actually ive seen it done before but im gonna do a slightly different take on it. theres a few pictures of guys with Z28 hoods with plexiglass/plastic inserts. ive always like the idea, was original and neat looking.
although ive found these pictures ive never found the owners of the cars so ive never been able to ask a few questions so im hoping to consult all my fellow thirdgenners.
my cars going to be a deep red, and i wanted that to following along with the inserts, maybe take the body color and make its more transparent. i also have a ton of plastic sheets at my dads all different colors. so the first question is should i use a red sheet and paint over it or a clear one. im not sure if the red tint will disrupt matching to the body color.
2nd question is about mounting. i could go out and take the tarp of my car on this windy day and take off my brittle louvers but id rather not. im interested in where the mounting locations are for the louvers and if i can utilize them. im thinking those drag racing snap on keepers would work, but im open to suggestions.
next order of business is what material should i use long term, when i use the sheets at my dads they might just be the prototype because im unsure how long they will hold up to the 200 degree engine heat. is there a better material to use for something like this that will hold up and not become brittle. i know they use something on vettes but what material is that?
last im takin ginto consideration that during the summer it does rain, and i will need to adress the fact that it may happen while im driving rather be safe then sorry right. would need to seeal it off somehow, and i had a few ideas for that as well. first idea to address that would be something between the plexiglass and metal railing of the hood.
second idea was some sort of weatherstripping like is used on our windshield but on a thinnner/smaller scale. something thats flexible and would make it look flush and sealed off. i think this way may be more difficult but better, that is if a can find something that i can incorporate into this.
and please if you dont like the idea, you can say it but keep the arguements to a minumum. its my car my style my opinion, and if you dont have anything nice to say then please dont say anything. to all those who do provide input and help i thank you in advance

What a completely stupid idea...Just kidding. I like that idea ALOT. I polished all the aluminum under my hood and think it just might look bitchen. Would love to see pictures in the event you get to it before me. Nice concept and half the work is already done for you. Keep us posted.

Idk kinda gay!!!! One if the dumbest ideas I've ever heard of lol.
Jk Tyler. I really wanna do this to but my big block would never allow for this. Specially with my future plans of boost.
I would take a zr1 hood and graft it onto a stock hood.

Re: need opinions on an idea
Not a bad idea but I don't care for louvers on the hood. It would have to be a pretty big bump right there lol.
I think I'm Gunna get a pin on 6" cowl. I'll need it hopefully when I get my taxes well see how much boost we can build out of my big block lol.

Re: need opinions on an idea
ok so back to topic, last night my friend was smoking tobacco out of his plastic 4 dollar pipe and it got really brittle after awhile and broke. that cauht my attention because what will 200 degrees of trapped engine heat do to this, so plastic is out of the question for long time use. anyone have an idea of what to use?
