Fuel tank for external pump

Hey Everyone

I am installing an aeromotive a1000 fuel pump in my 89 camaro and was wondering if it would be alright to simply weld a bung in the bottom of the tank for the feed line. I don't plan on doing any wheel stands soon so I'm not too worried about cavitating the pump if you guys think it would be alright.

Thanks
Steve

Re: Fuel tank for external pump

i did that just make sure it at the farthest point back on the tank wall so the fuel rushes to it and you'll be fine and just leave a 1/4 tank or so of fuel

Re: Fuel tank for external pump

mockup yes but the rotors are on correctly. If you drive forward like you do in most cases the vanes are curved backwards, they are directional vanes. As the curve rotates the air inside is accelerated and the rotor acts like an air pump... directional vanes always cure back

same rotors, different pic

Re: Fuel tank for external pump

I think he was referring to the slot direction, which according to Baer and SSBC at least, would be incorrect on your setup. The rotor pictured above would go on the right side of the car if it were a Baer.

Re: Fuel tank for external pump

That rotor with the Corvette caliper on it is a left side. Air goes out the edge of the rotor, not in.

Re: Fuel tank for external pump

Humm eat crow... they are on incorrectly. The vanes appear to not go the same pattern as the drilled holes. i had marked them beforehand (HL = rear left, HR = rear right, VL = front left and VR = front right) and I used them for mockup only but dang..I would have thought they were drilled along with the vane, not directly against it.

You can just see the vanves curve the other side in this pic. I would have checked it on final assembly but I didn't notive the drilling rotation before.. how weird

Re: Fuel tank for external pump

I used to sell/b a dealer for Baer, plus I have 3 cars with Baer rotors on em..
For normal driving it will mostlikely be just fine buut if your plaining some hard driving better get them installed on the correct side.
I looked on Baers site for the install directions and its not on there yet. I better tell them to get it up there....

Re: Fuel tank for external pump

I would not have installed them incorrectly, I would have double checked the vanes and my markings on them they are for mockup only now and the fronts I probably won't even use.
