Spy license plate

Need a way to get the rear license plate to fold down at the push of a button. I figured its allready got all the springs and stuff that you need. All I need is a motor and switch.
The only idea Ive got is use an idle air control from a car some how. If you could get a switch to send power and push it out all the way and push the plate down and then cut the power or something and it would fold back up.
Any crazy helpful ideas?

Re: Spy license plate

Since the third gen plate position is difficult (Camaro and Firebird are mounted in different locations), there's no easy way to make a custom look. It sounds like all you want it for is to fold down as you go past a photo radar, I'd say you're on your own.

There's a lot of custom applications for the custom old car market. I know there's an engine vacuum operated fold down plate. When parked, the plate folds up under the car for a nice smooth custom look at the rear. When the engine is fired up, a vacuum signal from the engine is sent to the rear and unfolds the plate for display while driving. As long as the engine is running, the plate is displayed.

Door lock actuator... most have 3/4" throw. Not sure how you would mount it though.

LOL thanks for all the coments and ideas. The main point of it is to just be able to say I have it, that and you just never know when you might use it.
Oh and I have seen that episode, not too bad.

Re: Spy license plate

Depending on where you tap in, there's no engine vacume under WOT, so in theory, if you went with vacume it would automatically flip up when you floor it.

May prove useful o:-)

Re: Spy license plate

Wouldnt it be easier to mount it to something that would slide up into the trunk? Could even have a plate put behind it (make sure its firebird or camaro tho, so cops have harder time finding you!)

The main reason I had this Idea was because its allready set up to fold down so you can open the hatch with the key. You could still put a plate behind it.
And the plate flipper seems like a good place to start for only 50. You have any pictures or anything of yours?

That might be the coolest exterior mod to date. I had a thought for my firebird that would slide it out from under the bumper and then up. Still wouldn't be as awesome as that

Re: Spy license plate

I'd like to know about the front plate hider for our cars too, it would be funny as hell to mess with cops. I'd just ride around with it hidden and then if I get pulled over pop it out. I can imagine it officer "Do you know why I'm stoping you today son?" Me "No, why?" Officer "you have no front plate, that's a $140 ticket!" Me "I think you should look again, because it was on there this morning." Oh man that would be awesome!

That would work until it was an Officer with a video camera in his car who had seen your car from head on & caught it on tape with no plate & he had u-turned to pull you over. Then he could still write the ticket & it would stick in court.

Re: Spy license plate

There's always the dashboard-plate-in-windshield. Did that with one of my birds and got pulled over 3 times by the same cop. He genuinely did understand why I refused to drill holes in the nose on my car. Always got the same warning.

Dakota, you'll be better off not messing with cops, even though it's funny. I finally figured out that they're so used to dealing with human garbage all day that if you treat them with respect, your minor traffic infractions get met with less than stern warnings. And if you're rude to them, they remember the car. Trust me. They remember.

Hope you don't plan on actively using that because that can probably get you an action of police evasion in the right circumstances.. even if they're just pulling you over for a regular traffic stop.

I'd think REAL hard before using that if I were you.

Keep in mind: not having a plate, and intentionally obstructing your plates while police are profiling = two completely different issues.. hense why I say that.

There is vacuum under WOT, vacuum just drops momentarily when the butterfly on the carb or throttle body snap open

That seems like a really complicated wayto go. And then think, you would have to floor the gas every time you see a speed camera or red light camera. How would you make it flip back? I think you should do it up on a switch. I know thats how im gunna... Allegedly
