new camaro console gauges
Has anyone had the idea to try and incorporate the new Camaros console gauges into a third gen camaro? If so any ideas on how to make it work?

Re: new camaro console gauges
it would probably be easier to integrate the 67-69 Camaro console gauges that they styled the new Camaro gauges after, since they were standalone gauges that would be easy to install and i'm pretty sure the gauges in the new Camaro are controlled by the ecm.
but i don't think there's really a good place to put them where they wouldn't look totally out of place in a third gen, and they did a pretty good job of including every gauge you'd probably need into the stock 3rd gen gauge clusters.

Re: new camaro console gauges
I have the 68-69 console gauges and they are really to big. The newer console gauges are smaller and slightly stacked and have the oil and trans temp gauge which our cars don't have. I figure a custom figerglass piece would have to be made from about the top of "Park" on the shifter forward. The gauges would have to have a new custom cover that would stack them more kinda like a late 60s impala.

Do you really want to have to look over and down to see your gauges??
Personally I have never been a fan of vital info not being in front of my face........

Re: new camaro console gauges
Well vital is different for each gauge at different times. The tach is not important untill you are reaching 7500RPM and needing to know exactly when to shift vs at a red light going to the store and shifting through the gears below 3000RPM. Or, the temp gauge in the middle of August in town in traffic vs February on the interstate. The trans and oil temp gauges would be perfect down there along with a vacuum gauge etc.

That gauge placement has to be one of the dumbest things GM has ever done....I test drove a new SS ...At the park & shine car show this past summer...nice car ...It had a heads up display..and the stupid gauges under the dash in the center.....just my 2cents ...

Re: new camaro console gauges
I personally like the placement of the gauges on the 1st gen and the 5th gen in the console but not sure how it would look or work in a 3rd gen. I doubt you will be able to use the factory 5th gen gauges because as mentioned above they recieve all their signals from the vehicles ecu. I think autometer sells aftermarket pieces for the 1st gen setup.

Re: new camaro console gauges
I have a 1969 camaro with the tpi350 in it from a 1992 camaro. I have recently installed the 2012 console because I think it looks much better than the original 69 console. I have been trying to figure out how to get the gauges working. So far it looks to be challenging as others have already mentioned the gauges are controlled by the ECM. Half of the gauges were not originally equipped wich means no sending units. We will have to either use our computer signal and convert it from obdi to obdii or bypass all of the electronics in the gauge pod and directly wire the sending units to the gauges with the proper sized resistors wired in to drop the remaining load. Has anyone else tried anything similar?
