Removing headlight assembly for weight reduction.
Has any members here done the same? These jokers weigh bout 12 pounds a piece! So that's 24lbs off the very front end of the car. I have an extra working set so I'm using the extra parts to make stationary headlight doors for track use only and still be able to reinstall my assemblys when need be. Just gettin started tonite. Tomarro I'm gonna fab up some aluminum supports to make the stationary headlight doors ridged to the car. Also removed about another 20+pounds from unused bracketry throughout the car and working on new seat mounts for my corbeu seats another-15lbs.

Re: Removing headlight assembly for weight reduction.
could swap in some smaller headlights that would be a lot lighter than the stock setup and not require the doors to open as far to keep a better aero profile at night. 4th gen Camaro lights would be a possibility...

There have been a few people in here that have removed there headlight assembly and replaced them with some aftermarket lights that are lighter and use lexan for covers, I'm not sure how much my headlights way but if I were to guess they are under 5 lbs each.

I like the factory pop up lights and the way they look. But the factory assemblies are over 10 lbs each. Weighed with doctors scales minus my weight.
And hey mustangs take out their headlight(s) for racing. Lol

Can't help you with Firebird lights but I swapped my Camaro headlights for plastic ones. I still need headlights at the end of the track to see the return road and swapping from four glass to plastic headlights shaved off a few pounds however I'm to a point where adding weight to the front of the car to help keep the nose down is becoming another option.
I did see in a car magazine a few years ago where someone took out the Firebird lights and added small projector lights.

I removed mine from my 87 for the same reason plus l dont like pop ups.
We replaced them with some from e bay spots.Took away all the heavy stuff .just kept the black plastic cover n top cover.
Removed the PONTIAC part of the plastic and fitted them in place in the closed position next to the turn light.
Of course that was here not sure how it would go down with your "feds",and l did have spots as main beam in the spoiler.
See my Album if this helps.
