8.8 ford torque arm fabrication

does anyone know of a ready-made torque arm that's made for the 8.8 ford rear end? or, a proven set of plans/illustrations showing how to fabricate the bracketry to the 8.8 rearend?

Re: 8.8 ford torque arm fabrication

Since an 8.8 swap is only done by owners and not offered as an aftermarket swap diff, there is no commercially available kit to mount a torque arm onto the 8.8. If you want to install an 8.8, you need to use a lot of fabrication skills and create your own mounting attachment. Use the search feature to see 8.8 options on the few who have done the swap.

By the time you're done, it's probably a lot easier, cheaper and safer to just install an aftermarket direct bolt in 9" or 12 bolt under the car.

Re: 8.8 ford torque arm fabrication

we did a 12 bolt...but we scored. on parts and we had means to do it...there was just a direct bolt in 9 inch housing locally...asking price was 500, the guy was tubbing car so the 9 had to go...alky is right, often we try to save money when in the end you dont...ive seen several 9 inches direct bolt ins for third gens on craigs for very reasonable prices like 900 asking price complete, with posi, good gears, axles etc

Re: 8.8 ford torque arm fabrication

I seen 9's go for that amount but there was something always missing like the center section whic bring the price up. I'm doing a 8.8 swap Nd just picked up the recommended explorer 8.8 with factory limited slip 4.10 gears 31 spline for $100 at the junk yard on my first visit. Saw another with 373 gears there also. I have a guy who will do all the fab work who's done this before. The torque arm bracket is sold for $45 which gets welded on as well. I just need to order new 31 spline axles and I should be done. I will post more info when I get started.

Re: 8.8 ford torque arm fabrication

would have loved to done a 12 bolt boston but it wasn't in the budget. locally nothing here cheap and once you factor in the shipping it was to expensive to get everywhere else. On top of everything I'm doing a LS swap so i'm already crawling out the money pit so I have to save where I can. thats why I'm on this 8.8 build which I should be more then happy when I'm done.

I make a bolt-on TA for the 8.8, it's not Camaro specific though...

It's part of the package i make to install an 8.8 into an RX-7.

These are the brackets you want for your 8.8 then use whatever torque arm you've already got

Curious where you stand with this project? What's everyone do with the other brackets that go on the axle tubes?

You can buy new brackets for the rest of the suspension from places like Moser and Midwest Chassis. I'm sure there's other places out there too

Re: 8.8 ford torque arm fabrication

Racecraft makes bracket for the lower control arms too.

Ive also seen people cut the old brackets off and weld them to the new axle tubes, but that seems kinda sketchy for alignment reasons.
You can also cut the axle tubes right off your old axle and weld them to 8.8 center section.
