2014 Hood heat extractor onto third gen? Is it possible?
I've been looking at GM's solution for extracting heat out of the hood of the new 2014 Z28.
They do list 2 part numbers for the hood heat extractors and a rain deflector plate.
1- GM 2014 Heat extractor (GM Part # 22828242)
Optional- GM- Water Deflector (GM Part # 23180572)
I know many people have tried to build their own heat extractors or cut the louvers on the stock hood but rain usually kills the distributor If you look at the new z28, the LS motor is covered by engine covers and the heat extractor has a water deflector that deflects water to the front of the Z28 where the water is.
I don't think this will fit where the louvers are on a V8 car with louvers, but I've seen the stock V6 third gens have flat hoods with no louvers that might be a candidate for testing this mod. Or, maybe the water deflector is big enough to go under the stock V8 Louvers if you are cutting them to the right dimensions and add in a mesh screen to keep leaves out???? (I can't believe how many pine needles get embedded in my louvers in my parking lot without any holes in the louvers.)
Thoughts?
Ever since I modded my motor, the heat under the hood has increased quite a bit! Cold air=more power but what's the point if the exhaust heat just gets trapped under the hood?

Wow Very Nice! Did you just get a fiberglass hood and install that heat extractor? Are you going to put the rain deflector on it too?
Very nice!
Very nice!

You can buy a similar hood on ebay with the extractor in it.

But I do like the way yours came out. Get the GM rain gutter that they are putting on the 2014 Camaros unless you don't plan to drive in the rain

I don't have a dedicated heat extractor hood. However. I removed the center of this hood all the way down to the front and it does a very good job of moving air from under the car. In conjunction with the radiator position.

The hood started out as a Harwood 3 inch Cowl induction hood. It took six months of night and weekends to cut it and fit the vent.

I got a set of these functional IROC hood louvers. They are great and I can't see how rain would get to the distributor, which sits under a cover at the back of the engine.
