Re: Power steering Hose

I've been dealing with a similar problem this week, I got a pump and housing off a Chevy 1500 and all I can say with mismatched parts is good luck...

I'm looking into getting AN adapters for both ends and a length of AN hose. It might even be cheaper than buying a hose that fits from another vehicle.

Try Summit racing for your issue. They have some universal kits you may be able to use. I didn't see any that would work for my combination. I will be calling them to see for sure.

Re: Power steering Hose

You have a couple options.
You can keep the inverted flare hose and install an older pressure fitting on the pump. Like this:

Or you can get a set of brass inverted flare inserts.

The other option is to adapt both ends to AN fitting. But that requires a custom hose.

I figured it out and have it going! I purchased a line for a 91 cut off the end for the pump and then had a SAE flare end crimped on. Works great!!

I can't figure out where my flare tool got to so I've gone the other direction and I'm making it pretty with Russell AN-6 fittings on order. The hose ends are cheap, shockingly cheap. They are only $6 on Summit or Amazon. A 90 degree turn for the back of the pump was $10. The adapter for the steering box to AN-6 was the expensive part. That was about $20, and won't get here for a few days.

Re: Power steering Hose

Turns out my fittings were cheap because I mixed up POWERFLEX and PROFLEX. Ignoring the cost of the mistake, the POWERFLEX stuff works out about the same cost as a brand new set of lines from the part store, right around $90, and I have enough extra line for one replacement.

One question for you- how did you manage to get a flare on that line? Because of the sharp bend, my flare tool can't even get enough line through to put a flare on it so I have something until the fittings arrive.
