Third Gen Camaro Belly Pan

Has anybody ever tried to make an aluminum cover of sorts to protect your headers from scraping. I was looking to try to fabricate my own to have a little less worry about destroying my new headers. Thought it might look nice as well. If you have any pictures or had any problems like heat soaking of the floors, I’d appreciate the feedback.

Seems like a cool idea. You thinking you would bolt it to the floor?
Any progress so far? Cardboard mock up?

Not yet, I’ve been busy with body work which I’ll post here at some point. I’m thinking about possibly trying to use the subframe connectors as mounts for blocks that could protect the headers, but I’ll have to look because I don’t want to destroy them. Maybe I’ll use a stiff rubber that can compress. This might lead to the headers still scraping but should stop any structural damage

Re: Third Gen Camaro Belly Pan

I don't think it would help, cause the pan would just get crushed against the headers.

Re: Third Gen Camaro Belly Pan

I fabricated a belly pan under my engine but it was more of a catch pan around the oil pan instead of having to install a diaper for racing. No header tube protection. Even when I pulled a 4 wheels off the ground wheelie, it didn't damage the headers at all.

Great insight Alky. I was also expecting that putting something down there to protect headers doesn't make sense.
What protects headers the most is space between them and other stuff like the ground. Not any sort of armor.

Smoothing out air flow under the car like a true belly pan, that is something else altogether.

About a year ago I got a C7 vette as my daily. Under that car is amazingly flat.

Racers use "wheelie skis". That way the skis crush and slow down the impact.

But that wouldn't be good for street driven car
