I’ve been kicking around the idea of swapping out the stock rectangular headlights on my '86 for something a little more aggressive and modern-looking — specifically, round halo headlights. I know it’s not the factory style, but I did some AI mockups just to get a feel for how it’d look, and honestly, I’m kind of digging it.
My question is: how hard would it be to retrofit round halo headlights into a third gen front end? Has anyone attempted it? I know there’d probably be some fab work involved, maybe modifying the headlight buckets or building custom mounts, but I’m wondering if anyone has any tips, pics, or horror stories before I start tearing things apart.
Would love to hear from anyone who’s done something similar or has ideas on how to approach it without totally butchering the front end. Wiring isn’t a problem... I can handle that. I’m more concerned about the fitment and mounting.
Here are a couple of AI renders I made just to visualize the idea (attached below).
That's pretty neat. And, you can buy E36 halo headlights super easy. Like $150 for white only, and an extra $100 if you get stockers and an RGB halo kit (plus tickets for having non white/ambers forward facing).
