sold

sold - parting out the car was just a joke because I was disappointed with the lack of response on the car. In the end all of the bulls#$t some members posted about the price being too high without even seeing the car was just that bulls#$t. They are only either hurting themselves when the time comes to sell their own car, or trying to benefit by lowering the price of third gens so they can purchase one for less. The car was sold to someone who will continue on with the level of care this car has received its entire life. Always garaged from day one and serviced with care. As for the hecklers here: How many of you can say you have every service record since new? How many of you can look at your odometer with confidence it has not been tampered with because of those records? How many of you can get into your car without getting upset with some strange odor or rattle? How many of you can take a long road trip without a tow truck following you? Anyway you get the point and I can't wait to see the hecklers tear this post apart and erode the value of their cars even further. Again no fears guys the car was purchased by the first person who came to view it and he is a fellow enthusiast who will continue to care for her. My thanks to those who had sincere interest in the car and those that offered tips on selling her. She was only listed for sale here on this forum and the gta forum.

Re: 1989 GTA 5.7 WHITE 59,000 MILES WITH SERVICE RECORDS $8500

Guys, help me out by pointing out why the car is not generating any interest. I know the pics are old, maybe that's turning people away? The price seems fair right? Is it because of the upgrades I have done? I really need the cash! lol

Maybe the price is a bit high for some to look at?

I'd love to have it...

Re: 1989 GTA 5.7 WHITE 59,000 MILES WITH SERVICE RECORDS $8500

In 3 1/2 years, a lot can happen to a car depending on the owner. Pics from previous owner show a perfect car.. interior mint, paint mint, little or no dirt or oxidation on even the aluminum parts under the hood...super nice car you bought. The car looks like it had been garaged, never driven in the rain. Can you tell us how you've kept it.. Not implying anything except you don't describe it in your write up. It will help for people who would pay a little extra than book. NY winters can be cruel to cars and so is the market right now... on this forum a 84 T/A with lower mileage than yours sold for 5500 and anything $9k or more is not selling unless its a Turbo TA. I hate it for all of us. I'm a collector and muscle car rebuilder (hobby) and I have a soft spot for 3rd Gens (love 'em all).. After your response on how you've kept it.. (i.e. garaged, not driven in winters on salt, or daily driver)..will help determine interest and value... GLWS....
Godspeed,
Robby

That car is beautiful. I said the same thing a few years ago when it was for sale. GLWS. It's a bad time to sell but that car should still bring decent money.

Thats the high end of the market, but car is beautiful. I have the same exact car/color/year .... 60K miles, paid $4K for it. Needed minor cosmetics interior/tires paint, and no leather.

If you need cash, probably move it for around 6K, tough market now. Take your time, I'm sure you will get some offers.

Re: 1989 GTA 5.7 WHITE 59K $7500 possibly parting out see parts for sale boards

Just spent the last hour going through your photos. I am 2 hrs from you in Western MA. It looks very nice overall...biggest change I noticed from the previous pics was the TPI dizzy cover is missing and the TPI assembly looks a little bit dirtier.

You will get less by parting out that beautiful car than you ever would selling it whole, and the aggrevation of parting it is not worth it. PM sent...let's talk.

your right about her being dirty under the hood. I changed the cap and never put the cover back on. i will reinstall it, wipe her down and take some new photos. I know its a beautiful car to part out but no one has the money to buy her right now as a whole.

That's a shame to part out a car in that condition.

Hence why I spent an hour this morning over breakfast looking at 191 photos of this thing. This is not a car to part, let alone "get more if you part it."

I am glad to hear it. Whether you keep it or put it on your car lot, that is a car that should not be parted. I still think with a little patience Coolnjay could find her a new home. But either way - that car should not be parted out.

Re: 1989 GTA 5.7 WHITE 59K $7500 possibly parting out see parts for sale boards

I'm not looking to resell it...I want the car for myself. When it was for sale before, I wanted it but didn't have the cash flow I have now.

I wish the miles were lower...but I figure to put a few k on it a year for the next 10 years or so? Why not? A 350 t-top car is a nice car to have. And if something is well cared for, it lasts. My Z28 has 74k on it and is in comparable shape to this car.

My goal long-term is to buy 2 lifts for the garage, and add a "permanent keeper" third gen Firebird to go with my IROC (like a sub-30k mile GTA, TTA or Formula), and to have something to drive a couple thousand miles a year like this. With 59k on it, its not super low, but not a 100k+ mile car either.

I think one reason you are not getting any offers is that you are doing such a outstanding job of disclosure, that you are scaring potential buyers away. Most people believe that if you are selling a car your hiding somthing!
my tips would be...
*professional photos
*documentation - build sheets, past titles, DMV history, maintenance records.
*clean, then clean it, then clean it one more time.
*factory markings.

Re: 1989 GTA 5.7 WHITE 59K $7500 possibly parting out see parts for sale boards

Thanks for the advice, when I get back into town I will wipe down the engine compartment and take photos of it along with factory markings and receipts. it is a shame to part her out but these 3rd gen f-bodies are not bringing any money right now. As for disclosure that's the right thing to do. I have shown photos of all the imperfections so you know what to expect. One should be able to see the condition of the rest of the vehicle and see past the imperfections. However I don't want anyone to drive 3 hours and then start haggling over a crack in the interior plastic that you can only see if you twist your neck in a manner that will cause it to hurt, cracks in the paint on the wing that are only seen at the 2 foot mark and only at the right angle, touch up above the tail light. No one other than total car guys like us would notice this stuff. she does need a 200 amp alternator which i will install if i keep her. I no longer need the money but could use the space and I am buying a new 4 banger soon. thanks for all the interest guys I really do appreciate it.

I hope i am not violating any forum rules with this question. Who thinks I should list it on ebay prior to parting? I just took a look ad some cars and 1 out of 15 gta's, gn's are selling. Prices are down 40% on everything. gnx's went from 108k 5 years ago to 60k today. Its a great time to be in civil service, wish I were. I would be buying up everything if my income were up 30% instead of down 40%. LOL

I would list on eBay first. You can always set a reserve price you're comfortable with and see what kind of results you get.

Once the reserve is met, you're selling the car of course, but I would not set the reserve so high that it discourages bidders. Once the reserve is off, bidders know that someone is going to own the car, and the "true" bidding usually starts a few minutes before the end of the auction, when bid snipers take their shots.

Also try to time the auction so it does not end say at 5am ET. Opinions vary as to which is the best day of the week and time of day for auctions to end, but think about time zones and when people may be at home after work.

It may seem like a lot of work, but then again so is taking a car apart and selling it piecemeal. Not to mention shipping parts, getting boxes and packing materials, etc.

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck!

Ebay is worth a shot. Also, try Craigslist. List it everywhere. If you really need to sell, you should also consider what your bottom line is and like Luis said, make that your reserve. I think you will be disappointed with the money you would make parting it out, and it is a lot of work. If you can wait a bit I am sure that you will find a buyer for that car.

Re: sold

sold - parting out the car was just a joke because I was disappointed with the lack of response on the car.
