If you run across a red 90, I saw it on craig's list, in N/W Florida be advised, it's a fake, and a good one. Everything is right on the car, except the VIN and RPO code.

Thank God I read an article last night about spotting fake GTAs, saved me from making a huge mistake.

This was only my 4th hundred mile plus trip to buy a car only to be disappointed by misrepresented advertising. Any honest people left out there?

No. No there's not. It's really sad hearing stories like this, but at least you didn't make the mistake of buying it. People are *******s.

 

It sucks. I traveled two hours earlier this year to look at a "nice GTA" and it was a real junky trans am probably worth more in scrap. Some people think if it has cross-lace wheels its a GTA. Then you look at a TPI car and some dealer tells you it has the "vette 350" when it has an LB9. Its good to know what your looking at or for because a lot of folks aint honest or either they dnt know much themself

 

Sometimes it works both ways, I thought I was go'n to look at a trans am roller according to the owner. It turned out to be a GTA, He didn't know what it really was.

I kept it to myself and made a counter offer, He bit and I rolled it on the trailer.....

 

That's happened to me a few times buying guns Rob but never on a car.

I usually don't point out discrepancies in seller's ads, just move on but I had to tell this seller because he was playing so dumb about the car I thought somebody might have scammed him.

I told him it wasn't originally a GTA, he didn't seem the least bit shocked, surprised or upset. I asked if he wanted to see the codes so he would know what I meant but he said "na, it doesn't really matter to me". And he claimed to be a 30 year paint and body man.

When I bought my 90 GTA, the dealer claimed it had a 350 with the 5 speed. I ran the engine codes and found the original VIN stamped on the engine - it was the correct 305.

It always pays to be informed. There are honest sellers out there.

 

I know which one your talking about. It's red hardtop with aftermarket sun roof and a replaced engine with a super ram intake. That car has exchanged owners a lot and the guy selling it many years ago couldn't give it away. It's never looked right, everything looks off on the car. Plus it was a 305 car originally because of the 120 Speedo, guy is claiming it's a original 350 car when its not.

 

That's the one, I see the ad is gone too. The sunroof took 2" out of the headroom and being 6'3" I needed all I could get.

I drove all the way to Baker to buy this car counting on the seller being honest. Every thing he told me on the phone was false or greatly exaggerated.

After four road trips shopping for a Z and one for this fake car I ended up buying an 89 Corvette that was just across the bay. I like it !!!!
