They all the cut out in them... I don't know if they will be offered with out it or not, probably not.. the shop manufactured them to the prints.

Gah... I just received it and saw this. Im kind of pissed, but I guess it will have more chances clearing my future maggy blower. Besides this, another great great piece.

Ryan, Im pulling the trigger this week on a tubular k-member. I would love to have news from you about this (if youre working on one and when you think it will be ready). I already asked numerous times but never had an answer. Please tell me if Im wasting my time waiting or I should just go ahead and buy elsewhere?

 

We are working in them but have no projected due date and it won't be soon so if you need one I recommend to buy the next best thing. Sorry, its something we mentioned we were working on but never gave anyone a projected date.

Got my STB today and found it damaged upon inspection.(See pic). Appears was dropped or mishandled to the extent it broke two of the spot welds on the bottom of one of the mounting braces and has a small nick in the center of the bar. Needless to say not a happy camper. Info sent to UMI. Looks like another FedEx F*#@.

 

Got a reply from Ryan at UMI within the hour. Said he would take care of problem and send out another STB. Good customer service, unlike other vendors. Thanks Ryan.

 

Hey np man. I just wanted to know what was up with it. The STB install was a breeze. What a nice piece, props to you all @ UMI again.

Hello Everyone,

We are just learning that the STB's may not clear the Firebird/Trans Am hoods.... We did not even thing of this during the design.

If any buyers have a Firebird and the brace will not clear we will take it back for a full refund. I do apologize.. its a lack of research on my part.

Just Wondering if anyone has tried the strut tower bar on a Trans Am/ Firebird. I bought it but have had little to no time to put it on. Perhaps I'll get to it the evening not sure. If anyone has tried it did it clear the hood?

Recieved my STB today and installed it. Looks and fits great. I had to return the first one as it was damaged by FedEx. One question: How much clearance do you guys who have installed this STB have between the top of the plenum and the bottom of the brace? Mine is super close. I have poly engine mounts and my engine may sit a little higher than stock height. Let me know.

 

Lawrence, I'm glad to hear the 2nd one made it there in one piece this time.

The poly motor mounts do change the height slightly and my guess is you are correct there. We do keep it very close in order to clear the hood.

Well I finally got the time to try and install the new strut tower bar from UMI. Let me first start by saying that this bar is a very NICE piece of work. It is very well crafted and aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately it does not fit a stock GTA hood as they feared. I got it all bolted on and gently closed the hood and thought well maybe they were wrong but after close inspection I noticed that my hood was noticably over top my fender where the bar met the hood. Having not noticed what the cleareance was before the bar. I quickly unbolted it and checked and sure enough it was dead on even as I had hoped it would be. I can say that I'm disappointed that I don't get to put this on my car but I would most definetly recommend this bar to any camaro owner. The bar was well worth the wait. I only hope that UMI will let me return it since I have had it for a couple months.

Yes i know this is old. Just got my STB on my iroc and the only problem is that my throttle spring on the drivers side of the plenum is hitting my stb? dont know if it will be a problem but wondering if anyone elses was rubbing.

 

you should be able to adjust it out (up) to gain the clearance...
