I know someone selling a car that looks like a GTA. Only problem is the VIN # comes back as firebird, Trans AM and carfax says its a trans am.
The seller is still claiming its a GTA.

What should I be asking seller to make sure?

 

 

Ask for the RPO codes. Y84=GTA. Pretty much everything on the GTA could be had on the TA so all they would have to do to fake it would be to add emblems.

I think it all comes down to the buyer doing his homework.
Look at my car--it's an 86 T/A-but looks like a gta--except for the gold wheels(have them)and for the emblems(have them too). I never plan on selling this car, that's why I made it-literally-to my tastes. It has a legit 350 tpi motor-and I'm putting in my 89 pbr's.
I think if I told anyone it wasn't a gta--they'd never know!

If the VIN dosent tell its a GTA , then how come everytime I put my VIn anywhere it comes back as trans am GTA. Do all model firebirds report a "gta" when the VIN is run?

Ive bought the car. The owner is second owner and has owned it for a while but knows nothing bout cars. I am having a inspection agency look at it and have instructed them to look for them codes. the car is a few states away (6 hour ride both ways) but I think it will be well worth it.
Ive had a 87 Z28 for a while that I bought as a project and (like all my other projects) got low on funds and lost hope/interest.
Thats why I bought this one as a complete package.

Ive owned 2 80 TransAm and 1 77 TransAM and 1 80 and the 77 got towed before I completed my rebuilds. The other some one needed the motor and gave me a very nice offer. So I took it.
so that makes 4 total started and never finished projects and now decided that projects are not for me. Repair and upgrades I dont think Ill have problems with.
