The new IROC grills from GM are glossy. My friend's 89 is glossy. Mine was rough, not glossy. My friend's 86 is satin.

Anybody with a bone stock car from each year want to chime in here?

 

Interesting observation. I just bid (and got outbid) on e-bay on one of the "New from GM - in box" grill insert and it was glossy. On my stock car, it's not glossy at all.

What is the deal? I don't want glossy, I want the matte finish like it's supposed to have.

 

Are you talking about the black inserts that are in the fog light area. If that is what your meaning I will try and take a picture tomorrow. I took a lot of pictures when I had it out the other day, but it just figures I wouldn't have what you need.

I think they all come semi-gloss, but that can change after a while.

My old '85 had a satin finish on the grill.

Cool. Hopefully somebody with a different color 85 will chime in too. So far the only cars I can find the satin on are the black ones. This is weird.


Raptor, don't waste your money on ebay. Those things go up to and beyond $50. They're $35 right at the dealer.

My friend's 16k mile 89 has a glossy one if memory serves me correctly. All of the new ones from GM seem to be glossy.

My 87 has the "matte" finish. No extreme shine on mine!

 

It almost makes you wonder if different parts vendors for GM had slightly different finishes. Mine even looks different in which light it is viewed though.

Both my 87 iroc and the 85 z28 I sold were semi-gloss.
