Drew still alive?
I just noticed Drew hadnt posted lately. I looked and he hasnt posted since April 30... Anyone talk to him? He was a good source for info...
I'm.... still alive...
*** I hate that song...
Its a simple deal really... my life fell apart, I lived on a buddies couch for a month and I'm still putting things back together. I still don't have internet access. I've been busy working on my cars, I bought and sold an 86 t/a Lb9, auto, C&C ttops, fully loaded, etc, and I judged a carshow, went racing, took first in the 1975-present Chevy Stock class at the all GM carshow with the vert, etc. There's another show tomorrow, but I dont think I'll show anything.
The formula's torn apart, the V6 is my driver, and the convertible is just sitting, as usual.

Its cool to hear you are still among the living. Sorry to hear about the problems. Good that your getting a chance to work on the cars though. I think you would have to take my access away to this site and then I would get back to the car. lol

Hey Drew, sorry to hear about your troubles. We need you back moderating. There are two posts, how rare is my 82 Camaro Sport Coupe with dog dish hubcaps and an 8-track tape player, despite your sticky post.

i'll give you $75 for the convertible

j/k
I'd cut the convertible loose for $10k... Whoever gets it would be getting a hell of a deal. Where else do you find a thirdgen that you pull out of the garage, hose off, and pull 93 out of 100 score at a carshow without any detailing.
Right now I'm looking at acquiring another 89-90RS for parts... depends on what I can deal. There just isn't enough time to moderate on buddies computers.
I'll be back eventually.
Thanks for the concern.

"Life fell apart" generally means only one thing.... Some woman screwed ya. Seriously though, sorry to hear about your troubles. Keep on keeping on.
Its all about the tech recession, unemployment, a female that couldn't handle the pressure, and a complete mess of a life.
I'm much better off on my own, now just to make more money.

Wait a second, you've been out of work since November and you have a brand new 2002 Camaro Pace Car on order!! You must be getting one hell of an unemployment check or you got one heck of a serverance check!
No since cancelling the order until I need to. The cars are being built regardless of my buying it. It will be a Brickyard 400 festival car. When I get the call that says the car is in (after the race), I can decline it if I don't have a job by then. If I do have a job, it'll definately be easier. Also, look at my sig. I have an 86 Olds 442 for sale and also a 93 Indy Pace Car Camaro. The sale of those cars alone is almost enough to buy the new SS.
Not that my financial situation is anybodies business, though!

I also forgot to mention the $2000 rebate, the $1000 Camaro Legends tour certificate and the fact that the car will have some miles on it and I can usually negotiate a good deal all help in lowering the amount of out-of-pocket expenses for the new car!
Scott, I PM'd you a while back about the PDR deal. How's that working out for you? I am interested in doing it on a part-time basis, but all the training facilities seem to imply that it is only a full-time proposition.
EDIT: Nevermind Scott, I just found the reply you PM'd me. They used to pop up automatically whenever I logged on, so when I never saw one "pop up", I figured you hadn't had time to reply.
Thanks for the reply.

I found myself looking for something to do one day, back when Drew's behavior came into question, so I decided to see how simple it is to find an answer using the search function. What I found was that the first ten or fifteen topics that come up in the search are ones that Drew locked after telling the person to do a search for the answer. How many of those is a new member going to read through before giving up on this board without ever having realized the vast knowledge available here?
I agree that sometimes moderators and others are harsh to the same old question. However, I also agree that always asking for the answer before researching it yourself is the easy way out. I try to answer alot of questions for people every day. I have found 95% of the answers to those questions either on this board, another board or just by doing an internet search. i have learned alot trying to answer other peoples questions, and I have done it by researching the answer. I am not like Drew or the others that have an entire library of books and manuals that they reference. I get my answers by researching it myself on the internet. Most of the answers have already been published. I agree - teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. Feed him a fish and he will enjoy his one meal!

I trick I have for searching is I go to the main index of all the boards. I click on the Tech board header and use the search at the bottom of that page that lists all the tech boards. This allows you to search just the tech boards rather than all the boards.
One thing that Scott said. I do the same thing. I search the all the boards and then I search the web. I highly recommend using the google plugin toolbar. I believe it is available for both IE and netscape. I swear I am lost with out it. Adds a little search box right under you address bar for quick searching. I usually hate toolbars.
I will help people out with questions also but for the stuff I see all day long about 4th gen seats, evo kits, and corvette taillights I will just tell them to search. The sticky notes feature is nice but they only work if the person reads them.

Perhaps the answer is to have a trouble shooting board for engine/mechanical probs, and a faq board for the more common rarity/interior/detailing questions. I think in our hobby, situations and information is always changing. So asking the same question over again is not always without merit. Granted asking the same question someone just asked three posts down is silly, but for example asking about a strange option you think you have may not be so redundant. Remember, new people join this board everyday and may be privy to information some of the veterans are not.
redarrow1, you are right. There is not a problem with asking a question that has been asked before, but I side with Drew on the same issues that keep coming up all the time.
How many were made with options a, b, x, y, z?
What's my car worth?
was there ever a 350 in a pre 87 Camaro?
etc, etc.
Some good topics can actually be brought up from those subjects, like Chets 86 350 video issue, but he never asked if his car was a 350 built in 86. People still need to look for some of the answers themselves before asking on a board that has 15.5k members where it could and more than likely was asked more than once!
Check out the appearance forum and see how many times someone asked you to photoshop rims on this car and that car, or show me your car with stripes. I don't even frequent the appearance board anymore because it is so redundant.

Well, to butt in my .02...
I think banning and locking of posts is silly. I mean, c'mon...someone asks a stupid question, we answer it by saying "no one can tell how many briar brown '82 4 cylinder sport coupes with 8 tracks were made..." and they shut up! Why discourage new members by insulting them? Besides, not everyone should be forced to search. Resurrection of old topics can refresh everyone's memory...
And help my lagging post count
