Was it worth the price (long post but need the help)
I posted this in another topic but i need opinions fast and i mean fast by tomorrow. Here it is. My borther bought an 82 iroc-z28 camaro yesterday it has a 305 bored .30 over making it a 350. Has lees then 30,000 miles on rebuild. It was originally a manual but converted to auto but clutch pedal, linkage are thier and shifter came withit. It now has a turbo 350 transmission with a b&m pro star shifter. Has a $150 pioner cassette player in it. With 2 $75 speakers. It has cragar ss rims with good tread on front and about 20% left on rear but he did get the matching tires to go on the rear that matches the front along with 4 rims off an 82 firebird, i beleive they are formula rims but i have no idea so if someone could post a pic of a formula rim and a gta rim or just standard or all i would appreciate it so i can let him know what rims they are. The front tires and matching rear tires are almost new. The cruise doesn't work and a/c not hooked up. It has t-tops. It is missing th elouvers on the hood. It has a spot or two of rust here and their but hardly noticeable They only thing body wise wrong is their is spots where the paint is chipped but no biggy their. The windshiel is cracked. IT goes have some cool etchings in the window though. Body only has 91,000 miles on it. My borther paid $1,400 for it the guy wanted $1,500 and that was without the stereo and tires. I know i don't hav epicture so fit yet fo ryu to look at but from wha ti have described do you guys hink its owrth what he paid? I beleive it was because i basically acted as his appraiser ont he deal. I don't know much about 3rd gens i'm more of a 2nd gen camaro guy so i'm looking forward to learning alot sinc ei will be the mechanic on this car. .
Well just decoded the vin and sure enough not an iroc but it is a Z28, so do you think it is still worth the money? Or should my borther take it back to the guy he bought it from and tell him he wants his money back since it was mis repsresented to him. He even told me it was a iroc so i'm a witness. So what should i do guys PLEASE NEED TO KNOW QUICK ON THIS BY TOMMORROW IF POSSIBLE this is a very serious issue. Also i went and looked thourhg the windshield to check out the vin and the vin tag was missing what do i do about that? Coudl this be a serious issue. From what my borther said the bank even thinks its an iroc and so does the insurance company. I need to know if its worth the money or not with these issues at hand. Please respond with ay opinions.
P.S. Sorry for th elong post but i see it to be somewhat serious to me and my borther cause i don't want him getting ripped off. Especially sinc ei acted as the appraiser on the deal, now i feel like an idiot for no knowing that. If you nee dmore details please e-mail me or leave a reply i will get back to you in a jiff.
Thanks your time guys.

If its an 82 then its definately not an Iroc. Iroc started in 85. The title should have the VIN on it. Boring a 305 .030 does not make 350 ci. The 82-84 Z hoods did not have louvers, possibly flaps for the air induction. I would say that this guy has definately misrepresented the car. Is it worth 1400. Difficult to say without seeing it. If its fairly rust free and straight and the work you mentioned was done properly then possibly.

Man, I sure do find this post humorous. I have got to behave here but it sure is going to be hard to do.
Ok, first of all, you have to do your studying & homework BEFORE its test time, just like in school. You need to do your research BEFORE you buy.
1.How the h*ll did you confirm the title you got matches the car if there is no VIN tag showing thru the front window? In Texas, you're gonna have a big a** problem with no VIN tag on the car anymore.
2. IROC package started in 1985 thru 1990 model years. There are no 1982, 1983, or 1984 IROCs that were ever made by Chevrolet.
3.The louved IROC/Z-28 hoods started in 1985 thru 1990. A 1982 thru 1984 Z-28 may or may not have flaps that functionally open on the hood.
4.Here in Houston, that would be a $500.00 parts car if you are lucky. Running or not.
5.Run your VIN number or numbers depending on how many possibilities you see. You can get some history on each VIN number by running it on CARFAX. Doing this will probably confirm my suspicions that this is a slapped together glue job. With no VIN plate showing thru the window, it has been removed because it was stolen at some point in time.
I'd get out by backing out to the seller. If thats not gonna go down. I'd send it down the road to someone else. That's a serious *ss money pit car there. You'll drop thousands into it.

If I were you, I'd go try to get your money back. It's a 305, not a 350, you cannot bore a 305 to a 350. That car in perfect shape is worth about as much as you paid for it. No VIN, thats probably going to be cute to register. That guy lied to you about what was in it. I remember when I got my trans am, the guy told me it had a 350 because it had a 4 barrel. Of course I knew better, and was swapping motors anyway, and since it was a good deal, I just said, wow, I didnt know that and got the car anyway.
The reason i thought it could have been have been an Iroc is because someone told me they had an 83 iroc thats why i thought it could have been now the guy with the 83 knows he doesn't have an Iroc now hes pissed.
I live in Iowa so what will no Vin tag do. The isurance compny looked at the car and they didn't say anything.
I found out the hood is not the original so its ok their. This car was also previously purchased with no motor or tranny. So the previous owner put in the motor and transmission.
As for is it worth it, here in Iowa a perfect condition not dent or rust 82 with same mileage cost about $4,000. The car he got had a ding or two, i tiny spot of rust and the different engine and transmission, with the work it need it will be worth the same amount for less repair costs.
Also texas is totally different rust is a different story here and thier.
Also i own a ford fairmont with VIN tag on it with no problems paid $1,000 for it and i have previously tried t sell it but the guy go tinto a car wreck and wasn't able to otherwise it would have been sold. So i don't see the VIN tag being a big deal.
I also know a 305 bored .03 over is a 310 i figured it wrong when i did. With wha ti know about cars and laws it will not be big a** money pit as you say. I will try to get osme pictures then see what you guys think.

When the guy put the new windshield in today he found the vin tag it had came off and fell down below the balck part on the windshield its their now and matches whats on the title.
He sai dit was a 305 bored .030 over i'm the one who made the miscalculation and sai 350 when its a 311 not him. The car is in perfect condition except headliner needs replaced. And sinc ei hear all t-top selas leak it will probably need new seals their to otherwise its perfect. So after all this is cleared up is it worth the price? Gotta figure i also got 4 formula rims ( i think their firmula rims, not sur ei still need ot look tha tup either formula or GTA) And it also has two almost new brand new tires on the formula rims that match the front tires on the camaro. Also has a $150 poineer stereo with $75 speakers and $50 sub. Whata think now after all this confusing has been brought up and cleared?

If you're justifying what you bought, then you obviously feel it was worth the money. No 82 Z28 with 91k miles, even in Iowa is worth $4k. I live in Minnesota and the cars do bring a higher price here than in Texas, but the car is worth 1500 here and in Iowa, not $4k, especially one that sounds as hacked as you say!
If your insurance company thinks it's an IROC, then get another insurance company. If they are that dumb that they can't verify the model, then they will not be able to pay for any losses that you might have on that car.
Formula rims are worth no more on a Camaro than the original Z28 rims. There is no value there.
I'd offer the seller $1000 max, if I was interested in the car and it was "perfect" which I highly doubt.
Last issue, it's brother, not borther!

Yeah i know its brother but i type so fast and don't look over what i typed os thier usually alot of mistakes in the typing. As far as th eprices for most cars around here i haven't seen one in this kinda shape fo rless then $2,500 most run around $3,500. I wasn't talking aobut the formla rims on the camaro he was going to sell them and was wondering what thier worth. Well from wha ti have heard for others is that its owrth the price he paid especially for what they sell for around here.

Please do us all a favour and slow down a tad. It's tough to read. You type fast, we have to read slow. See, it's not fair.
The insurance company should get the model off of the VIN. If they think it's an Iroc then there's definitely been a miscommunication somewhere down the line.

Sorry for typing so fast and all the mistakes i'll try to slow it down. I found out today my brother knew it was not an Iroc before he bought it so the insurance company knew it wasn't, so i guess that was a miscomunication on my part.
