Formula Has Strange Options...

My '88 Formula 350 is pretty plain I thought besides having the 350 TPI. It doesn't have any fancy power options at all. AS I was going through the car I realized that it has the aluminum driveshaft and also the 1LE aluminum spare. Something else that is somewhat strange is that it came with '85-'87 style TA rims. It has A/C, single cat exhaust, no rear defrost, no power hatch release, manual windows & locks, no t-tops, and plain cassette stereo. Does this options package mean anything or is it just an oddly optioned car?

Its hard to say. My '92 vert has 2.73 posi, drum brakes, but the JG1 aluminum shaft. I assumed it was because it was the last year for the thirdgen and GM was trying to empty the parts bin

Yeah, I suppose that could be the case. Its probably nothing but some quirky person special ordering the car that way or whatever. Oh, I forgot to mention that it does have the B/W 9 bolt 2.77 w/discs.

Are you positive that the shaft and rims are original? Stuff like that is easy to swap over.

The wheels definately aren't original. If the driveshaft was original there should be an RPO for it. The spare is no big deal. A lot of cars came with the aluminum spare. My friend's 86 has it.

The wheels have been repolished or re-chromed, and they don't look right for that model/year anyway. So right there, they're unoriginal, IMHO. It throws into doubt the spare & driveshaft. post a pic of your RPOs and we can investigate further.

Yeah it would be easiest to figure out if I still had my RPO sticker, but as usual its gone. The center console door was in pretty rough shape. The rims were polished & painted by me as was the rest of the car. I doubt any swapping of parts went on before I owned the car because I bought it from a girl who is a friend of my family- she doesn't know much about cars.

oddly option i guess!!

my 1988 formula 350, had the aluminum ds, the alum spare, a towing hitch, the regular old school firebird spolier..

some of them original owners ordered some weird options on these thirdgens!! o well thats why they are called options i guess, you get what you want..
