Can anybody give me an accurate number of '91 and '92 Trans Am convertibles? Pontiac Historical Services sent me info saying that in '91 there were 637 T/A convertibles and in '92 there were 777 but it seems that every other source I look at conflicts with this.

I want to throw in the fact that in a National magazine (I forget the exact title), cars that are collectible or considered to have future status, picked the 1985 Buick Riviera because it had production numbers of around 500. Seems the F-cars of a certain year could even beat that.
I am a fan of the E cars, or 1979 to 1985 Eldorados over the Rivieras, but the F-cars never got a mention... YET

i don't consider 91-92 convertables that rare. there is 1-3 in the autotrader EVERY week where i live. and they all go for about $5000-6000 US at max, most are much less.

OK...speaking of rare: There were only 18,000 '69 camaro Z28's produced and it is one of the most highly sought after cars. Comparingly (and I don't know about bird figures but prob similar), there were only 3000 converts produced per year for each year production. When you consider TA and Z28 figs specifically, the numbers drop even more. So with 15,000 convertible camaro third gens ever produced, and maybe 1/3 (???) of those being Z28, and figuring in cars lost to wrecks, etc., there are a pretty small number of these guys out there. I would guess its the same for the TA.
You know how it is when you get a car and THEN you start noticing all the other cars on the road like you have?? Well, in the few years I have had my 91 vert, I have seen less convertible thirdgens in the entire DFW metroplex than I could count on one hand.
But this is one man's opinion and I could be completely wrong and maye I just have not driven around that much to see more

Are those numbers only for T/A 'verts, or do they include Firebird 'verts as well? I was under the impression that those figures represented ALL 'bird convertibles made, be they T/A or otherwise.....

You have a very nice convet by the way. Ummmm...I have a Camaro vert so i really have not focused too much on their yearly production numbers of birds. At this point, I would guess that the number of Firebird verts produced annualy was similar to Camaro numbers. I am thinking that there were around 300 bird verts produced the year your car was made and maybe 1/2 -1/3 were T/A. I'm sure there is a better source than I, but that's my best guestimate.
Dave, those numbers are just for the Trans Ams. I have the number of firebirds produced as well, however since my T/A numbers are off, I'm sure the firebird #s are off as well

Drop tops 'round town
I see quite a few in the MPLS metro area. Camaros and Firebirds, but they are WAY outnumbered by the imports, Fords, and Dodge convertibles.
I'd bet most lack serious horsepower though. A few certainly appeared to be not-so-factory conversions. Those are the ones I chuckle at

Mathew , when you spoke of low numbers of Camaro Verts that would be left out there ...consider how low they would be in AUSTRALIA and in right hand drive !

From what we can find out , there are only4 maybe 5 other 91 Z28 convertibles in the country.
Ours is a factory manual, but had a 350tpi motor and iroc stickers fitted when it was converted to right hand drive before we bought it. As a 350tpi , manual it's the only one that we have heard of .

Wow, I hope that whoever converted it to the 350 really added some structural rigidity to it. I have a 305 and my a$$ is all over the road when I really floor it from a stop.
That's one very pretty car.

SFC's are an essential on them thats for sure.
I'm trying to get a pic of under the hood and the right hand drive.
BTW here's a pic of me and a friend with some of Sydney Harbour in the background.
