Right on man.....Convertibles were only able to have 305's in them.....the 5.7 L98's produced to much torque for the car to handle....and the car would twist.....so..... the 350 L98 only came in Z28 Hardtops only......no t tops or convertibles were available with the 5.7 L98.

I'm not sure on the figures, but for that year 91 there was only about 40 hp difference between the 305 and the 350.
Iv'e been told that it's not so much the HP but the torque that is the reason they didn't do them with 350's.

I've seen 5.7l w/o t tops have stress cracks in the roof just above the doorglass extending from the B pillar. Now if a stock 350 can put cracks in a car with a roof I could imagine what it could do to a convert wthout lower body reinforcement. GM should of put SFC's on the verts, for the extra 200 bux it would of cost them it would of prevented some rattles and gave the car a better feel right from the showroom floor. My car flexes way too much and SFC's are a high priority this year.

I've been mentioning mine since I came on and once the VIN was 'decoded', it was determined that it was an L98... it has 140 MPH speedo which suggested that from day one. Also have electric windows, lock and trunk release. Auto trans, and ASC door jam stickers. Mine slides under accel. I think this is common enough. They are a lot of fun in that regard (if you know how to drive properly), but for racing, traction is much more paramount.
I also have factory dual cat exhaust. Anyway, this rumour been dispelled enough for me... I'm going to try to restore my car's former glory

Umm not to argue and I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but I know for a fact my 89 Iroc had Factory T tops with a Factory L98 350. I also beleive the 90 had T's with the L98. Just so you know that's all.

1989 was the last year the optional 5.7 TPI L98 engine came in T-Top IROCS. Starting in 1990, (just found out, thought, it was 91) the 5.7s were available only in hardtop. Thanks for the info though man....

I have those cracks on my hardtop 2.8L v6, they probably more likely came from popping a curb or something like that forcing the body to flex as well as the engine.
