New formula owner with a weird ?
New formula owner with a weird ?
So I buy my 89 Formula from a impound yard two weeks ago for $2K and I was suprised how well the car ran and still had alot of power for having 115K on the clock.
While I was changing the spark plugs today, I crawled over on the driver's side and saw a plate on the lower half of the block. I rubbed the grime off and it says that I have an AC Delco remanufactured engine. Best of all, according to my attached metal plate, it's already punched out .30 over and .10 on the rod and main bearings.
No other info on the plate, but I'm wondering is there any way to find out what dealer put it in or how many miles were on the car when it was put it. At least this would give me a barometer to figure out how much life is left in the motor.

I would try Carfax or one of those sites....I think it's like $20 and they can tell you the entire history. Lots of people on here use it, and some people even offer to do it for free as a favor...just keep an eye out. Good luck.

Heh, Carfax is great! I got my 92 4 cyl Mustang (winter beater) over a year ago for $200 out the door, drove it off the lot. One of the reasons I got it so cheap was the fact that the salesman (and myself) thought the odo. had rolled over, w/ 43k showing (stupid Ford 5 digit odos)
. I thought it ran too good, and with too few problems, to have that many miles, but decided not to question it. Anyways, I got curious and had somebody run a Carfax on it yesterday...turns out, the car only had 43k miles when I got it
. In the last 6 years (1995 - 2001) before I bought it, the car had only been driven about 1500 miles

Try calling the VIN in at your local GM dealership. They can do a service record, maybe that will help, as long as a GM service center installed it that is.
