82-84 Firebird Auto Shifter Plate

Hi All,
My 82 Bird that was hit the Monday before Thanksgiven has gone to the body shop. I have found and order all of the parts that I need except for one.

The Auto Shifter Plate got damaged in the accident. Does anyone out there have a Auto Shift Plate for an 82-84 Firebird. If you know where one is in a Savage yard, I would be willing to pay you to reterve it for me.

Please send email to bruce.embry@worldnet.att.net
Thank for your help

Speaking of 82-84 Firebird shifter plates, my '83 T/A has the manual tranny. It has a small shift-pattern designator piece on the shifter plate between the shifter and the console, and the shifter itself has the black ball ****. Was this standard during those years? The reason I ask is because my '89 RS had the black-ball shifter ****, but I could swear that Firebirds had squared-off shifter ***** with the shift patterns engraved on them. Am I making any sense?

83 TranzAm,

I have an 82 Trans Am with the exact same manual shift plate and ball shifter. I think that's standard.

Bruce,
You have to get an auto shift plate from an 82 to be correct. That is the only year with the 200C tranny with NO overdrive. An 83 to 84 plate will fit, but won't technically be correct.

I think the 82-84 firebird plate is the same as the Camaro plate from 82-92, but it has been ages since I have had one of those early cars...

The 82-84 bird console is a little wider than the camaro and has the lighter in the console and the camaro has the lighter on the dash

you'll need an 82 specifically. 83-84 says something to the effect of "automatic overdrive" which 82 does not say.

'82 Firebirds are different because they didn't come with overdrive.

Shift pattern plate

My 83 5-Speed console has the shift pattern on a small little glass plate on the top of it. Looks kinda neat. I bet that thing is hard to find. It also has the black shifter ****.
