It actually dosent look that bad. The engine bay looks like crap. He got rid of the CFI i guess. The interior isnt bad. Nothing a new carpet wouldnt fix. The exterior well, as you can see in one of the pics that door is in rough shape. But i think if you just repainted the car and POR-15'ed all the rust the car should be as good as new. It looks like a daily seeing how it is all rusted and has dings and what not. My best friend has an 82 pace car as well but his is in far worse shape. It is rotted out and he still uses it as his daily. It is a shame how people treat these cars. I like the 90+ noses better though.

Not all came with the CFI some did come with the carb.

I have a 82 pace car as well its not the best looking in the world but right now its sitting in the garage waiting for me to get some money to at lease get it restored. body is straight thats what counts. about $600 to do the interior (not including the seats) then another $1300 for the seats.

VIN shows it to have originally been a CFI.

The seller also says "The clutch is very strong and shifts smoothly" when it is clearly an automatic as all CFI's were.

I didn't decode the VIN and I could tell it was supposed to be a CFI. I noticed the hood insulation cutout was falling down and the cross-fire injection badge on the rear bumper cover. That car meeds more than it looks. The interior plastics are all sun faded, which would also make them brittle and requiring replacing, the paint is shot, the decals need replacing and who knows what the engine needs. The interior needs work also, witha cracked dash to start with. At 44k miles, this car was trashed. I'll bet it's actually at 144k, since the odo is only 5 digits. The engine compartment alone looks like it has 100K miles on it from all the crap in there! To restore this car would cost way more than the car is worth.

I actually emailed a few questions about it last week, and the seller has never replied. I did point out the Crossfire..or lack there of, and asked about how it ran and still nothing.

Also, 82's had 6 digits for the odometer.

It's junk, a parts car.
Way more than 44K, maybe 244??
There's another one on eBay now. Only 4k and looks it too!

After looking at the one in Minneapolis that's on Ebay, I will admit defeat on the odometer issue. Now I need to ask, were all 82 odometers 6 digit, or was it just the Pace Car? My 87 has only 5.

I like the pace cars, but you've only got two types... the beat to hell and the mint overpriced variety.

There's a pacer sitting about 20 minutes from me. Its parked in a yard in a small town. There are small trees (saplings) growing all around the car, the tires are all flat, the hood is covered in leaves and crap off the tree its parked under. Its covered in bird **** and whatnot, the alternator is laying on the top of the hatch, and 40% of the paint is peeling off and its slowly rusting away.

There was another one around here, it was painted solid blue and was incinerated. Another is in fairly decent shape, but one door is completely crushed. The owner thinks its worth its weight in gold. I'd like to find a typical used pace car, unfortunately I just have never seen one for sale.

At least the upper end '82 f-bodies had the six digits. In '83 it went to 5.

All 82's had 6 digit odometers. Starting in 83, they went to 5, and then switched back again in 90 (I think). I know my 91 Z has 6 digits also.

That second one was awesome. But it seems that all the pace cars are either trash or expensive. I'd like to find a decent one at a reasonable price, too. What I'd really like is another 83 Z28 like I had, silver with CFI.

The only Indy Pace Car I have seen for as long as I can remember looks absolutely horrid...it still has the original decals, but its beat to hell, the paint is peeling, its got rust issues, the owner smokes like a chimney every time I see him, and it has mismatched wheels...a shame
